Can you still buy a lemond?
My brother wants to get a lemond. I called my LBS asking if they had an Alpe d'Huez and he seemed to tell me that you can't get any new Lemonds? Is this true or does he just want me to come in and buy one of the many Treks he has on the floor? Anyone buy a 2008 lemond recently?

You can't get any new Lemonds at most Trek dealers, as Trek and Lemond have parted ways.
Lemond has lost their only distribution channel as a result of getting dropped by Trek.

I just picked up an '07 Alpe D'Huez at Belmont Wheelworks (Belmont, MA), where they also have many '08's available: clicky

Once the legal ridiculousness sorts itself out, I'd expect Lemond will try to set up his own Bontrager-less line-up.

it's a bummer because bottom line they had (or have) some of the best frame designs around for the price. i see guys on older steel or alu lemonds and they just age well. the old panel graphics ones always look classy.

Hey Xrisnothing...I am up in Boston this week and part of next week with my minivan (racing Wells Ave on Sunday -- not main purpose of my visit)...I don't think Wheelworks will sell online, but, if you want to pay for a Lemond (although, the prices are only discounted for 07s), I'll get it and drive it on down to Austin for ya/your brother :-) Although, of course, you would need to know the size and some fitting (e.g., stem) would need to be done down there...Wheelworks is a good shop...I purchased a couple of bikes from them in the past 3 years for my kids and when I first raced way back when, they were a sponsor of the team.
Did you check Bicycle Sport Shop on Lamar? Are they out?? They may still have some rental Lemonds for sale...

Lemond was licensed, not owned. Given the vitriol, I would assume that if sales slacken, it's mostly because Trek stopped production once the lawsuits were filed. Maybe one party is also trying to make the other hold the bag for unsold inventory.
Once the legal ridiculousness sorts itself out, I'd expect Lemond will try to set up his own Bontrager-less line-up.

Maybe, but my (uneducated, of course ) guess is KB is probably doing better than Lemond in terms of partnering with Trek. He gets to come up with new components on a regular basis, and his parts are all over Trek's product line.
Although, I am curious.... Is anyone other than Trek using Bontrager parts these days?

Titus did the same until 2007.

No...the R&D and design time that Trek just sank into the final appearance of the LeMond carbon frames will most likely be carried over into the recently acquired Klien brand name for Trek. Many believe the reason Klien was purchased by Trek was as a replacment for the branding channel that the LeMond brand served.

IMHO, once Trek got a hold of Klein, they brand started to lose luster. No longer the meticulously handmade aluminum marvels that they used to be. They ended up being "me too" mass produced aluminium frames that everyone else was churning out.

Klein was acquired by Trek back in the late 90's if not early 00's. Not a recent acquisition.

From my History of Klein Road Bikes page
Klein production moved from San Martin, CA to Chehalis, WA in 1980 for the less expensive real estate. Trek bought Klein in 1995, but Klein production remained in Chelais through February 2002. There was a little lag before they got it going again at the Trek facility in Waterloo so there weren't many 2002 Kleins built in Wisconsin. Waterloo bikes were the first ones to have the carbon fiber seat stays (which I still think is a gimmick).
