Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was going to say some shop guys screwing around with a new build, but pump and computer already mounted makes me doubt it.

Sigh..........the fact that someone sold that to her is scary.

I was going to say that what is missing is my garage in the background with all those bikes in it, but then I noticed the length of the steer tube on the Trek in the foreground. Can you really run it that long? Most bike shops will tell you that you can use at most 50mm of spacers with a 1.125" fork. Do you expereince very much flex?

Well, the owner of the LBS I work at decided that it would be a good idea to run a steer tube of that length so the customer who owns the bike would be more relaxed. Apparently she loves it.

Looking at the headtube, it appears to be a 48 cm or so. If she has the torso/arms to reach that high, my guess is that she has a build similar to this.

I wonder what the rider looks like. Sitting upright with her level arms fully extended into the drops?

How is that more comfortable? Wouldn't all your weight shift to the saddle?

That can't possibly be safe or a good fit for the rider.

So given the choice between selling the customer an Electra Townie or rigging up that abortion of a bike setup...they opted for that.

Oh lordy.

Seriously though, first of all the rider's a midget judging by that head tube and stem.

Secondly, rots o' ruck if that's a carbon steerer sticking up that far unsupported. That's a calamity and a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Or they put the rider on a bike that's 5 sizes too small, with "MTB like" standover clearance, and they've butchered the bike to make it all "work".

I think that's an alloy steerer with carbon spacers. If you look up by the stem there's a spot on the side where the silver shows through.
