Critical Mass Bicyclist Assaulted by NYPD (VIDEO)

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Critical mass riders are idiots. That being said it certainly looked like the cop was out of line.

True but it also looks like we missed part of it. Looks like the cop saw the rider do something and targeted him out.

Still, the cop should point and ask him to pull over. Imagine cruising down the road when a cop car rams you into the curb just to give you a citation.

Nonetheless, +1 to CM riders being idiots.

That cop's behavior doesn't surprise me one bit at all.

The cop did what everyone else felt like doing. Of course in the You Tube age it isn't too smart, but I'd buy the man a beer.

Woot woot nice take down hahahahaha...
I am sure the idiot did something to deserve it.....

You can see by the video that the police were simply watching making sure no one got out of line. The officer just going over to take someone down doesn't make sense. Do we know if the rider was charged with anything? I tend to give the benifit of the doubt to the officer in this instance. Critical mass riders can be complete idiots sometimes..

Thats crap. It lookedlike he was just sizing up to smack someone... the 2nd to last rider just seemed a bit too far.

wow. it's no surprise amateur cyclists in the us are seen as such morons by the rest of the world...

a frustrated officer takes his aggression out on the person closest to him, and the meatheads come out in support.
Gladly, the NYPD investigators weren't so shortsighted, as the officer's badge and gun were stripped.
As the report goes, the cyclist did nothing but ride the same way everyone else was. Unfortunately for him, the officer had obvious behavior issues and decided to act out as he passed.

You sheep sure have done a good job internalizing totalitarianism. The cyclist was charged with resisting arrest and assaulting the cop. He was NOT charged with anything that explains why the cop assaulted him. Kafka would be proud--this is how far we've come. I repeat: no charges were filed relating to anything that happened before the cop decided to beat the guy down. It raises the obvious question, if the rider's behavior was criminal enough to justify the use of force, why wasn't he charged for the offense the necessitated the use of force?

judging by the responses to my original post i'd say that there are more idiots who read this message board than attend critical mass rallies.

Cop should be fired. No excuse for that assault. He was clearly in no danger and instead was in attack mode.

Ouch! Excessive force or what? Keep in mind those curbs in midtown are metal. I hope that rider is ok.
