Care to explain why you think it is slanted? The article is mostly about the use of available technologies (cameras, cell phones, etc:.) that record moments in time - which is, essentially, history, and thereby having a visual basis for consideration of judgment rather than solely the accounts of a single authority's perspective.

It was slanted in the respect that the inference was the cop was at fault. He may have been but it is unproven. The inference was reinforced by the tone of the article that talked about how video tape which sometimes shows police brutality (based upon particular context only) doesn't agree with the public statement as to what happened. I am not supporting what the cop did but none of us really know what set the cop off. Perhaps the cop was completely unjustified. He may have snapped but something this cyclist did really pissed him off as the cop seemed to draw a direct bead on the guy if you watch the tape.
Most of us wouldn't be caught riding in the throng of so called cyclists that want to "increase public awareness". The reason this thread incites so many is because it captures a large slice of America...what is wrong with our society that is blessed with so much wealth. Gluttonous automobiles...I am an engineer in the auto industry btw....wars fought because of oil...I am not totally against taking out Saddam btw....cars intimidating bikes...in this case the other way around....crowd mentality....cops resorting to unnecessary violence whether justified or not. The whole dynamic brings out the worse in people and why so many people have such diverse views.

As to the diatribe about big oil, the wrongness of our culture, and the rest, totally off topic to the incident here.

The only thing "slanted" was the lie told by the officer under oath. The video camera didn't lie, when it showed the cyclist veering away from the thug (I'll say thug, because that's not slanted or biased, saying the individual was a police officer would imply he is upholding the laws of this country, not violating them) and the thug shoulder blocks him off his bicycle, then uses his state appointed power to lie under oath in his sworn statement that the bicycle was trying to run him down, when in fact the video quite clearly shows him doing exactly that.
Doesn't seem slanted to me at all. Maybe I need a few years with the Limbaugh letter to read it the way you see it.

slanted? lol. slanted towards the truth rather than the lies perpetrated by the "cop". that's no policeman- that's a thug. he gives honest cops a bad name.
personally, i'm not a fan of critical mass, but that shouldn't justify this kind of behavior.

We're too busy stereotyping all policemen as overpaid, fascist, nazis here.

there are good cops and bad cops, but no one is allowed to be a bad cop anywhere, anytime. there's too much at stake. these are the people who are supposed to be model citizens of our community. when they fail at that- then they deserve what they get. if they can't abide by these rules, then they should look for a different job. it's that simple.
even if you are cop-centric, you have to admit that this looks rather bad- bald-faced lying in sworn testimony. the video doesn't lie.

If the guy did nothing wrong then what happened was terrible. I am not a big fan of CM riders anyway...lol.

You forgot there are good cops that do dumb things once in a while. I do admit it looks bad and I am far from cop-centric. The cop may have been dead wrong. The tape does not capture what the cyclist did upstream of when he was pushed off his bike. I agree, it should have been written in the police report. The cop obviously had seen enough and when the cyclist pulled in front of him he pushed him down. I personally thought it was a pretty good tackle and glad it wasn't me

Not only can the liberal press not be objective about what they write...whole article was framed with the inference of police brutality caught on video...but clueless guys like you aren't even smart enough to see any bias.
We are just not card carrying liberal cop haters like you...that's all.

How can you possibly draw the conclusion "the cop obviously had seen enough and when the cyclist pulled in front of him he pushed him down" from "it should have been in the police report"? If it was obvious he saw something, it is equally obvious it would appear in the report. Again use your head.
Please...use your head or at least wipe your drool off my bike.

Can someone remind me how you become a senior member in the forum? It clearly doesn't relate to critical thinking or intelligence. There are some really dumb ****s posting in this thread who are senior members and joined this month.
There are also a lot of people who have never seen, participated in, or read anything about Critical Mass posting in this thread. Interestingly, most of these people live in places with drastically lower population densities than some of the conurbations in the NE U.S. Those two things make it a difficult for you to comment on a CM ride or dealing with automobiles in these cities.
"Man, I've never had a problem with a driver in my life!" (you see two cars during your once-a-week spin)
"Those dumb ****s in the NYC CM deserve to be beaten and harassed and are stupid for wanting to live in a country where you are allowed to show your displeasure with the state of things in your city!"
I won't call your state a backwards, hole in the ground that is dominated by conservative, Christian, non-thinkers if you promise not to imagine and theorize about how peaceful and cheery you'd be commuting and riding in Boston, Philadelphia, NYC, DC, Baltimore, et cetera...
Deal?

maybe the cyclist did do something upstream (seems doubtful after reading his testimony), but whatever happened to ordering the biker to stop before resorting to football tactics? since when do cops resort to "shoot first and ask questions later"?
well, my point is that they aren't really allowed to do dumb things and that wasn't dumb, that was plain stupid!
in my mind, if this cyclist did not provoke this attack, it's a cut and dry case.
btw, all newspapers are biased, but i do prefer to read the NYTimes over the rest of them

Yes, there ARE two sides to every story. One is what the story is meant to convey, expose, and highlight. The other is how you personally choose to stereotype the people from that actual city who know the details and facts about the story and decide that those FACTS are in fact the truth, as the officer has admitted.
But anyway, shouldn't you get back to designing another car or something? Isn't that what you do?

If something else had happened, it would have been in the police report. Something does not have to be proved to be in the report, how was the policeman going to prove the cyclist tried to run him over? Obviously, shown by the video, this was clearly not the case, yet it was in the report. Two sides to every story, except the one caught on video shows the Policeman (thug) is lying. How is that slanted? Can you enlighten us as to how the cyclist "really was" trying to run the policeman down, even though he obviously is trying to avoid him? Please show us, oh wise one.
Joe
