does anybody have an idea as to what the weight is on the bike with full ultegra? i've read somewhere that it's 16.5 lbs, and that the rival bike is 17.6. do those numbers sound accurate to you?

about 17 LBS sounds fairly accurate for the ultegra model. if you ever pick one up in person its extremely light.
it sucks that for 09 there is going to be no more system six

I have an early 08 SystemSix.
With Reynolds DV46 tubulars, Record, SRM hollowgram (it's about 675 grams with BB so reasonably light), Mavic bars (normal aluminum, very heavy for bars), Ritchey Road stem (130 mm but reasonably light), Thomson post (normal), stock seat (ti Arione?), 11-23 steel/ti cassette, Look carbon (steel axles), it's 16-ish lbs.
With DV46 clinchers and an 11-25 steel cassette it's almost 18 lbs. With my saddle bag (tube/s, multi tool, levers), pump, bottles, etc, I'm at 22-23 lbs. That's if I don't have lights (currently on the bike) which add another couple pounds (dual downlowglo, niterider, and blinky tail light).
I don't remember the numbers exactly but I have a digi bike scale. I'll have to go weigh the bike again if you want exact numbers but that's the range.
It's light but it's not that light. Depends on your non-componentry selection, i.e. bars, stem, post, seat. I'm sure I could cut 150 grams off the bars alone but I like the Mavic bars. There are significant weight savings if I thought it important in the wheels too, but I like the DV46s.
I believe the frame comes in at over 1150 grams. You'll be giving up about 250-350 grams over the lightest frames (1/2 to 3/4 pound at 454 grams/pound).
