Specialized, any one?
So before I buy this bike.. Does any one have any objections?
My local University bike store directed me to this,
The Specialized Allez.
It looks like a great bike on the floor, but there was one other one he showed me.. I forgot which one it was though...
I'm looking to spend any where up to $950 tops. Any one got any better ideas? I'm looking to train myself and get into some local races. Oh and I live in Boulder Colorado... If that makes a difference?

That looks like this year's model of the Expert or Elite. I have the Elite '07 version with 105 on the rear and carbon in the s/p and fork. Zertz inserts are nice.
IMO, a terrific bike for the buck. I commute 48km a day and could not be more pleased. It handles well and has the pedigree of a racer. As for durability, it's had no issues in 3000km. I changed the tires at the 2800km mark.
If it fits your budget, and you, and you like the lbs, then just do it.

If I was buying a bike today and was on a budget, that's the bike I'd buy.
I have a 2006 Allez. I still have it. I still like it. All original components except normal wear items. But I changed the Mondo tires; they seemed to be puncture prone for me.

The bike was killed in a car accident and I've been stripping it down for free parts for other people, and just the other day I weighed what was left. The frame (without fork) and BB were over 4 pounds. It is the same BB as I took out of my wife's Dolce, and that one weighed about a pound. The whole crankset & BB was about 1300g.

No flash..just a great bike to ride....ENJOY..I DO...Mine has some scratches from a previous crash by the owner but still performs well. I am 5 11 and 205 and only issue I have had is rear wheel trueing.....not major though

I should add that the primary reason I replaced my Allez with a carbon TCR was that I was regular doing a route on a road that was so bad the bike was beating the crap out of me. I've described the road as looking like the surface of the moon. I was also breaking spokes like crazy and had my eye on some Ksyriums. One day on that route my spoke broke again and my wife came and gave me one of her wheels, then I rode down to the bike shop and bought the wheels, and the bike. The Allez was a good value and was a good price to get me started, but paying a little more than double for the TCR was well worth it.

awesome, yeah I'll keep that in mind.
I will hopefully be picking her up within the next week. I know my LBS is a good shop, but they were trying to sell it for $850. If I can't get it down to at least 775, I'll just get something for like $900-950. I haven't actually weighed the bike on their scale yet, I went to go look at bike with flip flops on..
So I'll go back again for a test ride then make the final decision. Thanks guys!

If it is the allez elite that's a great price and you probably won't talk them down any. If it is the normal allez, then they are high and you should be able to get it for less. But if its the same one as in the pic then it is the elite, with a retail of $1200. Unless its more than a couple years old that's a steal, IMHO. Good Luck.

I have an Allez Elite. I've logged thousands of miles on it, dozens of centuries, a few 150mile + rides and lots of solo & group rides. It's never held me back. (But lack of training and effort has... )
I did ditch the Alex wheels pretty quickly though. After the rear hub started to show a noticible wobble, the LBS replaced them for CXP's at no cost.

My first road bike was an Allez, not sure exactly which year. It was a decent bike except for the sh**ty wheels, and of course everything is heavy.

I wanted to get a Tarmac SL2, then figured I'll 'just' get a Tarmac Comp. But I didn't see ( i haven't test ridden so dont know for sure) that it's much of an upgrade over an Allez. Sure the wheels are better (Shimano RS10) but not *that* much better. I have AlexRim DA16 (yah yah I know) but I figured I should lose weight from my body and keep it off before splashing out on a new bike. I guess if something happened to my Allez right now, most probably I would get a Tarmac Comp though but would still look seriously at another Allez coz I only use it for training 1h per day.
Update: it is a Tarmac Pro, I saw them building it up at the shop today

I purchased my 08 Allez and love it. I got the black model instead of the white. I wanted a whitel one but black is all they had in stock. I ride about 100 miles a week and it really fits my needs...
The only thing that I wish for are 105 or tiagra shifters.

Ohh. Mmmm. Gee.
I just got back from test riding the allez, it turns out I need a size 61.....
Wow, I LOVE the acceleration. It's like nothing else. First road bike I've ever riden, I now see why the handles are made that way.
It was honestly unbelievable. I used to go on 20 mile rides on my Mamba Gary Fisher with a bent hub, bent wheel, etc...
Holly ****ing ****.
so I took it down the side walk till I got to the corner, then I hauled some ass on a slight uphill run at a pretty quick RPM. Not that fast, but pretty quick.
Then I did a short sprint on the way back. WOW. Just. WOW.
I sprinted for about 1-2 seconds and I was already back to the BS. I was so amazed, I am in love. I couldn't even imagine it with clipless pedals.
I hope to see you guys at the races. I could actually see my self getting some where in the biking world.

The elite was very tempting though...
I loved the double any ways, cause it doesn't even feel like you are pulling any weight like a BMX or Mt. bike feels like. The only way I can describe it is,
running really fast. ROFL
