Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Numbness in my feet

So I’m still very green to riding, but I found that I get some numbness in my feet after an hour or so of riding. Is this nromal?

Not an unusual complaint. But also something that should be fixed.

1) make sure your shoes fit, are adjusted corrctly, and you have no pressure points impeding circulation.

2) make sure your cleat is positioned properly under the ball of your foot. This can make a big difference.

3) don't have a death grip on the pedal, relax your feet and toes, wiggle your toes from time to time.

4) pedal circles, pull back at the bottom of the pedal stroke, and push over on the top, don't just push down. High cadence, smooth stroke is less likely to give you numb feet, than mashing down at a slwo cadence.
