Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

just a real quick average.

what is your average ride distance, and when do you have time to do it?

mine is 20 miles, I do it at 6:30 after work 3 days out of the week.

I ride 27 miles a day 4 out of 5 days during the workweek on my commute and then on the weekends I typically ride 40-50 miles at least one of the days.

Looks like I've averaged 46.6 miles and 2,750 ft of ascent per day, 17.06 mph. I ride every day, although I have missed a few days for various reasons. Averages are deceptive; some days are short (e.g. today was a short recovery day), and others are longer. This includes 26 days that have been over 100 miles, one of which was a double century. Some days are very slow and some are extremely fast. Most weekdays start with a 14 to 25 mile "commute"

Average is ~10 miles/ride, since I commute 6 miles each way. Three rides/day though

I ride between 16 and 25 miles a day. Around 125 miles a week. I'm 51 and seriously slow, 14.7-15 mph average speed. I may switch to a Dura-Ace RD and that should bring my average speed up to 17 mph or so...

the ride i do most often is 80 km (50mi), and i do it on the weekends (mid day). the six double-centuries i've done this year also on the weekends, of course. brevets (200-600km), weekends.

commute (50 km), sometimes. last year my avg was ~50 km, this year should be a bit higher. i don't usually do any rides less than 10km.

i doubt this will help, but i hope it does somehow. did umd win again?

stoopid question but those of you that do the 80-100k+ type rides do you take a stop or is that non stop riding , and if you do take a break how long would you roughly rest for?

70-90 mi/day during the week - mostly after work (leave office about 2:30), 80-140mi/day on weekends starting at the crack of dawn.

2 days off out of any rolling 7 day window.

I will regularly go over 60 (100K) miles without stopping for more than just a stoplight. For example. I've also had races longer than 100K, where obviously you can't stop...

I ride with my local club on one of the weekend days and we generally average 50-60 mile rides. However in preparation for a century we did 72 miles last Sunday. I also ride usually on wednesdays after work a quick flat 10-18 mile ride.

When I work from home on Tues and Thurs I head out for a quick 20 miles from 12-1.
The other three days are am commute of 15 miles and an afternoon commute of 28. The weekend used to be 70 mile rides one day and 19 with my son the next day. Now with home projects the 70 mile rides are no more.

Between utility rides (groceries, here and there with the kids) and road rides about 18-20 miles a day.
