I've done my searches but am finding very little information on the EA70 wheels from Easton. I believe they are new for 2008, previously they were known as the Circuits, but key parts have changed since then. The biggest issue for me is durability. I train roughly 100 -150mi a week and race often, 22 races this season, thus far. I need smooth hubs, straight rims, and intact spokes. I'll be training and racing on these for now, riding them all winter, and using them as dedicated training/long-distance wheels if I were to get race wheels.

This is a call out to all you silent EA70 owners out there. It's odd how little there is on these online, the Circuits were Easton's most popular wheelset and the pricepoint hasn't changed, from what I understand. There's 30+ reviews of the Circuits, and only 1 for the EA70s.

My cost on a new set would be $400 out the door from my favorite shop. The jump to the 90-series sets are out of my price range at $670 out the door. Chainlove and other online retailers are not an option.

So, what's what with the EA70s? Well executed training wheel that can race? (that's my target for this pricepoint) Thanks.

I'll give ya a free bump. Wish I had some info on the 70's for you. I just upgraded from Easton Vista's to EA90 SLX. Got them shipped to my door for less than $500 (ebay). So for so good. My vista's were bulletproof. That's why I went with the 90's.

The ea70s have smooth, nonadjustable hubs, strong rims with machined braking surfaces, and plenty of spokes for a solid feel when cranking out of the saddle. They're good for training and will work fine for racing. Don't freak out if the freehub is sticky at first.

In my EA70 vs. 90-series debate, does anyone have an opinion on EA70 @ $400 vs. EA90SL @ $550? Same spoke count, differences are hubs and rims. Worth the extra $150?

Keep shopping. Many shops seem to be selling the EA90 SL's for $400. Maybe getting ready for the new line?

Lots of Easton stuff is on clearance right now. I hate to say it, but check eBay. Chainlove has had both wheels listed a few times I believe. I know they had the EA70s for $210. Supplies on eBay seem to have tried up (many people tried selling brand new after the Chainlove deal it seems).

No idea if they'll ever show up on chainlove again, but knowing that they were being cleared out, I wouldn't pay $400 for them. Maybe a set of Ksyriums instead?

yeah, the ebay route is the best. I was recently looking for a set of the ea70's and saw a guy selling them for about $290 shipped.

I opted for a set of custom built ultegra/open pro CD wheels from bicycle wheel warehouse. They look great and I can't wait to get my bike out of the shop so i can mount them and put a few 100 miles on them.

I understand I'd find better deals outside of a shop, but I'm a shop-sponsored racer and have loyalties of both friendship and business nature. The only thing I can try is to use online retailers (everything but ebay) as leverage for a discount.

I bought the EA90 SL from these guys (Hi-Tech) last week. $399 + shipping. Super cool guys, very easy ordering and the wheels showed up perfectly packaged. They sent them out for shipping while I was on the phone giving the guy my CC info and I had the wheels two days later (I live in Northern CA and they're in San Diego so YMMV on standard shipping times).

If you're buying from the shop, and you're not getting a super-heavy discount, then perhaps consider another wheelset that isn't selling for significantly less online and on eBay? If Chainlove was selling the EA70s, then there must have been a good amount of inventory lying around.

Find somethine equivalent that isn't discounted as much, or go the Mavic Rim w/Ultegra or D-A hubs. Not as pretty, but a good set of wheels?

i have the 50s and love them. felt great during my crit on sunday......wish i saw the deal on the 70s on chain love as i baught my 50s for 210 plus shipping

I don't know why the fact an item is discounted online should matter in my overall selection of what's best for my needs. That's saying I shouldn't spend $400 at a shop on wheels I could get for $200 online, and instead get wheels that cost $200 everywhere. EA70s > OpenPro/Ultegra, for my purposes, by a long shot.

Sadly, back to topic, there's a dearth of personal experience of the EA70s in this thread.

I have a set of the 70's. I took them out the first time for about 30 miles, I'm 190lbs. On return I found the front wheel a little out of true, my LBS fixed that for me. I love them! the freewheel is loud, but they roll forever! I have about 500 miles on them now, I feel pretty confident with their durability. I got mine at chainlove.com $210.
