Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

edge 705 issues

My new 705 is having some issues. I tried their tech support but was disconnected after 40 minutes.
My speed, heart rate and cadence shows up and records but I CANNOT get distance, avg speed or avg cadence to show/record.

Its all there in the 1st window but always shows zero.

Actually one time, while on the phone with Garmin it recorded a few feet in distance then after the latest firmware update- nothing.

Also, If it records speed and distance by the GPS what is the spoke magnet for?

thanks everyone.

I have a 305. I only use the spoke magnet when my bike is on a trainer. Otherwise the GPS will track my route, speed, etc.

On a trainer, just turn off the GPS and you should get speed, distance and so on.

Your 705 should need the GPS for route maps?

Try the owners manual for additional set-up help, also Garmin has support on their website.

Do you have a speed/cadence sensor mounted on your bike?

If yes did you tell the Edge in the accessories screen AND the profile for your bike that you have one? (Yes there are two places to set it, go figure!)

If yes to all the above what happens if you spin the wheel while holding the bike off the ground?

How much distance do you get in before checking for the averages? Or have you gone for a long ride and nothing shows up? Does it show up when you press start/stop ?

You have to close your browser and open up NBColympics.com again. Should work just fine.

I've got 305. When i loaded up centre it wouldn't communicate with my device after i loaded routes onto my device. I deleted my routes from device and centre and now it works fine. Minor bugs that will hopefully get worked out.

Ascent software for Garmin ROCKS. Check it out. Requires a Mac, but that's a good thing.
