SRM + Garmin = deal?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SRM + Garmin = deal?

This struck me as a very good deal.

https://www.competitivecyclist.com/ro..._67_FALSE.html

At that price, it's not much more than a wireless ANT+ compatible powertap plus Garmin, built up with a nice wheel.

I can't imagine your missing that much from the 2009 Dura Ace SRM, and it's $500 cheaper, and you get the Garmin to boot.

Now what can I get for a wired PT SL built up with a Zipp 404?

Pretty sweet deal [relative to SRMs].

Makes you wonder how much SRM believes their PowerControl is worth. [like 850 on CC - yes?]
The Garmin is 710 on CC.

140 dollar difference between computers.
425 dollar difference between combinations.

Somebody's accountant is going to get in trouble.

Do you think there jsut trying to clear out 2008 inventory, in front of DA 7900?

Anything you're giving up going with the 2008 version?

DA7900 cranks are not compatible with the SRM spider, so you won't see any. The pricing is what it is, and will likely go up as the supply of 7800 cranks dwindles.

Why not get a CinQo and 705? The extra $1k left over could be used for all sorts of goodies.

Because CinQo is first-generation, and I'd rather sink my money in tenured technology.

/hence why I didn't buy the first-generation iPhone

I think they are trying to clear them out for this.

With the price of a 705, and a Powertap. I think you could get in for under $2,000.

Oh right, the Garmin 705 has been on the market for so long now.

And, FWIW, the two guys I know with 705s have had some weird glitches, but love them.

To add another data point, I've not had any glitches with my 705.

I can use the wireless SRM with a regular wired PC V if need be. Redundancy ftw.

Yeah but think about the wasted grams. Granted, it's probably not much more than you'd drop by drinking a cup of coffee and taking a dump in the morning, but OCP correctness requires that every component be strictly weighed and minimized accordingly.

Oh yeah, and the original post mentioned nothing about using a PC V (because the combo doesn't come with it). So now add $750 to the $3600 price -vs- the CinQo/705 combo at around $2100.

But the CinQo is only available with some pretty crappy crank sets contributing to much of the price difference, not anything near DA quality. Now gen 2 of the CinQo might be worth waiting for.

FYI, The FSA cranks that SRM uses are the same ones Quarq uses, just labeled differently. https://www.srm.de/store_usa/product...ional-FSA.html

If you compare just the sensor and cranks, without a computer, the CinQo still about 1/2 the cost. So it's not necessarily the cranks that are contributing to the price difference.

We plan to introduce CinQos compatible with the Specialized S-Works, Cannondale Hollowgram SI, Rotor Agilis and Lightning (when they get to market) cranks this Fall.

In general, I'd agree. However if you're using the 705 Head Unit to replace the SRM head unit, adding next to no weight, picking up some functions, and costs less than just the SRM unit, it seems like you're ahead with the garmin head unit.

Not going to argue that you guys will have some awesome stuff in the future, but SRM is available now with DA and Cannondale SI cranksets, not just the FSA you mentioned. Your CinQo on SI cranks will be something to wait for!

If you are comparing the number of choices between us and SRM, they obviously have more options to choose from at the moment. I just didn't want folks to think that the price difference between our powermeter and theirs was because of the cranks.

We'll be getting additional versions out as soon as we can, but most likely the next ones will be this fall.
