Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Schwinn Passage with RSX Components

I just picked up a Schwinn Passage with Shimano RSX components. I think they're the lowend components from the late 90's. I had to do a little work, but its all wroking now. Except the shifter for the rear derailleur is work out. Can those be replaced and is it difficult/expensive? The Schwinn itself is the frame, handle bars, seat post, and seat from what I can tell. The wheels were replaced when the new component set was put on by whoever had it before. I got is for $150 so I think its a decent deal for a starter bike for my wife. Wondering what other people think. I didn't put this in vintage because of the newer components. If it should be moved feel free to let me know and I'll re-post or a mod can move it.

I use to own the same exact bike, but in a bigger size. It was good as a commuter, now is my friend's commuter. $150 is pretty darn good.

I'm going to get her some blinking pedals from REI until she's ready for clips, and some tape as well. It'll be my first time taping. I still need to do some more cleaning, but I worked the drive train pretty good and got any grit and crud that was left on it. I'm excited, I've been trying to get her to ride since I started last year.

Just have her prepared for it's rough ride. I went from 25c to 23 and wished I didn't switch. Other than being a bit heavy, it was a nice, reliable ride.
