There is nothing wrong with it, but what makes it stand out?
To me it gets lost in BF just like a stock Corvette would at a car show.

I started this thread and have seen every bike posted - so far my vote probably still goes to the Moots posted fairly early on.

Here is the problem with your bike and it is the same problem that my bike has and the majority of the bikes on this thread have. They are what I consider a wallet bike. They are a mixture of the best that your wallet can afford but bottom line is they lack class and again MY bike falls into this same category. Look at that Moots above. It is understated yet in your face at the same time. That beautiful Ti frame is not something that we see everyday in our LBS and the wheels are almost unobtainable. The graphics are subdued and the wheels do not have that rolling billboard look. It is a quality build that does not scream NASCAR. Classy Classy Classy

i dont think i've seen any of the higher end custom joints on here...
not a single pegoretti, crumpton, RS, vanilla/sv, i'm surprised...
in any case there have been some beautiful bikes posted so far.
edit: there actually is a pegoretti on the first page. slipped right by me.

Eventually, however, beauty is a highly subjective principle--alas, beauty is in the beholder.
One rider's plain Jane bike is another's Mona Lisa.
Pesonally, I think that most, if not all, bikes are beautiful in one fashion or the other. What is there not to like about a bike?

I agree with Gary totally. My Giant that I started the thread with is a good example of a 'wallet bike'. It's a very nice bike, but some builds can obtain a 'work of art' status for me. The Moots really does it for me - for the reasons Gary mentions but also look at the titanium Moots seatpost and stem. Hot. You don't have to necessarily break the bank though. I had an idea for a build where I would blend retro and modern components. I think it came out kind of on a similar level to the Moots. I had well under $1k in the build:
But still, I agree with your (and garysol1's) general sentiments about what makes a bike "hot".

I also wonder if that Moots build would look quite so hot if it were a larger frame. Smaller framed bikes almost always look sleeker to my eye.

I was actually thinking this afternoon that Moots would look better if it was a size or two bigger, and if it had a little more seatpost exposed. I think 54 to 56cm bikes generally look the best; not too big, not too small. It is still hot, though.

Hey, I didn't say it was as nice of a bike. I'd take the Moots hands down in a nano second. My point is just that the build is on another level than just an off the rack bike, which is the majority of what's here (myself included).

Thanks! Yeah, I have to admit I was kind of happy with that build. I found a 86 Centurion in a junk bike heap at a LBS. It was in decent shape and had all the original components. I bought it for $75 and sold all the parts off of the frame for about $150. I then had the frame blasted and powder coated (was pretty cheap to do). A friend gave me the fork because it was a 1" steerer and wouldn't fit any of his bikes. I had a lot of the components laying around. I though dt shifters would be fun and sure enough Shimano still makes 10 spd downtube shifters (Dura Ace no less), so I got those and the derailers. The frame is made for a slightly narrower real wheel but with a steel frame you can just force it in there and it works fine (it's only a millimeter or so deflection). The bike is Tange 1 steel which is actually pretty light - the bike ended up being a little under 18 pounds.

wow, that moots is hot. that is basically a few sizes and an slr away from my dream build.
i had a similar idea ravenmore but took it a step further.
i wanted a "retro" bike that completely hid its modern drivetrain. at face value it looks like a typical early 90s italian steel but under the skin you are looking at a "modern" 10spd bike. the record titanium brifters were gutted and turned to 10spd, the c-record crank is wrapped in 10spd chainrings, the monoplanar brakes house modern cartridge brake pads, and soon it will have a "lightweight" set of 28 spoke tubular wheels.
it may not be on the level of the moots, but there is passion in the build. the frameset is a family heirloom, i personally converted the levers, mixed and matched the alloy components to look period correct, and polished the stem (it was anodized grey)

A long long time ago, this thread went from "hot or not" to "post any bike you own"!! There is another thread, a stickie no less, with that name. Not being insulting to anyone, but most bikes in this thread are far from "hot". At least in my opinion. Not to say they are not functional, reliable, good, etc., but that was not the purpose of the thread. So I guess I agree with most of what Garysol said!
