Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Back in the saddle

After a long hiatus, I've finally replaced my 5.2 that was destroyed when I was hit by a vehicle in Sept '11. Some of you may recall the pics I posted back then of the lime green monster. I decided to go with something a bit more conservative this time around.

2012 Madone 6 Series P1
SRAM Force Groupo
Stock config - RXL's, etc...
Stem to be flipped (and probably replaced with a 110mm) as I get my chops and condition back up to par.

Loving the bike so far though, figured I'd post a few quick pics to the HRN thread.

I don't think he has any options otherwise, except those ugly ones that flare out to an "aero" shape. I think the problem with the stem is the way Specialized's head tubes extend way past the top tube.

I have heard those are really great frames though.

However, this is the "hot or not" thread. Looks are pretty much all that matter here. Doesn't matter how great of a frame it is.

My wife and daughter don't like my new bike (Infinito). They tell me it's a chick color that even chicks don't like. One of the women where I work told me it looks ok "for a girl's bicycle." I think they're barbarians. I just got the bike, so I still have to remove some spacers, etc., but allowing for that, what say the BF?

As much as it pains me for a Bianchi/Campa pairing, I'm going to have to say Not.

As for color, Celeste is always awesome. They just don't understand the tradition behind it, like shaving legs which cyclists have been doing longer than women. Celeste is on a level like Rosso Corsa as far as cycling.

Black bar tape, stem, saddle and seat post would be an improvement IMO

Minion--

I appreciate the bump and the kind words. I'm still not sure I can bring myself to cut the steerer, as it is the original custom steel fork. The crankset, on the other hand, will be replaced as soon as I can get my hands on the right replacement (I'm thinking a 7700 crank to match the rest of the drivetrain).

A couple more photos that highlight details that may have been overlooked:

Seat cluster - incredible craftsmanship.

Bottom Bracket Cluster

Lousy photo, sweet chainstay

I dig it. And if your limber enough, flip the stem eventually. If not no reason to cripple yourself to appease the peanut gallery.

Good point, or is it the bike that's too busy?

Updated the pics with some cleaner shots...

actually that's what I wish I had the patience to do to mine.
wet sanding through all that epoxy coating without destroying surrounding areas would be bloody murder though.
I like your bike in either livery, it's clean.

photoshop is fun sunday morning distraction.

The basic paint scheme on these bikes is very intelligent, well thought through.
The white is open, friendly, broad, and clean.
Completely free of wanna-be.
it takes but a stripe of hot color (I slightly prefer the original red to the flash-yellow version) to indicate that it is capable, if it chooses to be, of focused aggression.

a cold color stripe (like the blue variation above) makes the bike totally passive, skirty.
This doesnt happen when the dominant base color is black.
here is the poor maligned 1x10 as example:

(This is merely an H or N sidebar on color here, not commentary on or a submission of overall hotness or notness)

The cool color blue in this context doesnt turn it skirty, and it harmonizes well.
Personally, I think I'd prefer it that way if I had the equipment to do it right. The bike is so hyperagressive that the red is redundant. I supppose double hyperaggressive is fine, but it's not in keeping with my personality. Blue would balance this out.
