Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

make it anything but a Trek, and be sure to get a frame that is all flat black, then put praxis rings on it and take the logos off the wheels. Cut the steerer tube, get a different saddle. Then maybe it has a chance at being hot.

It seems like that is the only formula around here.

Or just cover up any decals revealing it to be a Trek.
When people ask what bike it is, just call it a Lemmond.

I'd give the trek a hot with the exception of the saddle which detracts

Right, let's do it right in 2014!

Stealth bikes are dumb. Colnago and Pinarello are fugly. Mass market commonplace is the only way to go!

It's a pretty nice bike, but it's too compact for me, and I don't find that aesthetically pleasing - I guess that I like more delineation between the TT and the seat stays; probably why I'm not typically a fan of the smaller sized bikes, WSDs, and some Specialized/Giant/Trek bikes.

My New Year's resolution is to only consider bikes hot if they meet all of these critea:
lugs (any material)
tan sideall tires
at least one color

Exceptions will be made for bikes with two of the three:
tubulars
downtube shifters
campagnolo

automatic disqualification is given to a bike with any of the below:
splash bar tape
disc brakes
Hydraulic rim brakes (road)

Those rules would fly in the V&C.

But it works with modern bikes too:

Green c59 with tan veloflex tires = hot
propel dressed in super record and lightweight tubulars = hot
tig welded 853 frame with 7900 downtube group and nemesis rims = hot

disc brakes? Functional, but not attractive
Hydraulic rim? The sram levers are huge, the shimanos shaped funny, and the edco (while cool) are also ugly
splash bar tape? Do I need to explain?

bgoodwin's all city?
First it has no disqualifications.

It scores one point for frame color, a second for tires, but it misses because it isn't lugged.

it doesn't have any of the three special provisions.

not hot (it is very nice though) I want to give him bonus points for brake choice, but a resolution is a resolution.

oh, and welcome! Don't feel bad. One of my three bikes isn't hot by my own formula and I'm ok with that.

They are! I have the SL versions and have been very happy with them. Laced mine with Sapim Lasers. Bare set was 1500 grams on the dot.

Agreed. That Domane is nice.
A guy has one locally (with different saddle and SRM) and it looks great in person.
