I wish NBCs coverage wasn't so bad. I waited around for 4 hours for it to come on for 30 minutes. Granted, it's no TdF, but epic scenery nonetheless.

I hear ya. I actually got to see more of the women's race, but like you said it was more about the epic scenery. Even though it poured for the women.

I guess I understand NBC's coverage, as much as we all (us crazy cyclists) would have loved to see all 6 hours if the race, it’s safe to say that we're a minority. However, instead of showing 15-20 minute updates, spread out of 6 or so hours, I would have preferred they just have one big thing of highlights- it was pre-recorded anyway. So, I had to sit there the whole time, waiting for updates in-between other events. Granted, there was women's beach volleyball during that, so I was VERY content.
My only big gripe came just at the end. Jim Nantz was in the studio and would introduce the next segment they were about to air. He sat in front of a big screen that had little clips of the day's action- and just when he said "and now we take you the conclusion of the men's road race" I looked at the bottom right and saw a shot of Sammy with his gold medal!!!! ARRRGGHHHH- I avoided the results all day and then got it ruined by some knucklehead editor.
None the less, what a beautiful ride that must have been......

The prose was a wee bit purple at times. I didn't understand this bit:
"It was a stark contrast to the drunken crowds of Flandrian fans who run out alongside the riders in the Tour de France, their Flemish flags waving in the riders’ faces as we ascend the cobbled climbs in Belgium."
My guess is that the NY Times editors thought he meant Tour de France when what he probably wrote was Tour of Flanders. The Tour de France doesn't usually go through the cobbled streets of Belgium, does it?
But all in all not bad. I haven't read his "Inside the Postal Bus", and now I don't have to.
