Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

what do you guys think of this? It is bronzed welded chromoly. I thought chromoly are bottom line steel.

I guess with this price I should just get a soma and fill it with ultegra.

Nope, chromoly is an alloy that is not necessarily bottom end at all. The SAT tubeset referred to is Dedaciai SAT 14.5. It has tube walls that go down to 0.45mm which is pretty incredible (some tubesets do go thinner than this mind). If they build it right, it could be an excellent frame. That said, Tange Prestige is no low end tubeset either. Also, remember that you can build a horrible bike out of great tubesets and somewhat vice versa also.

Also, Bianchi is launching a lugged bike this year called the Dolomiti. You might consider that too.

that bike is an awful value. the soma smoothie can be had from GHV bikes with Fulcrum 7s and a rival group for $1300

I should add: my LBS has had one of these for over a year, and they can't sell it. I got to check it out up close, and the paint is nice, but the chrome on the lugs looks like hell... also, they scratched the serial # into the BB instead of using a sticker or tube stamp... lame. that bike should cost more like $1400-1500 - its waay overpriced.
