Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i shaved my legs and now i look like a girl

...or like yogi bear with some skinny-assed girls legs. I can't believe I took this forum's advice.

Anyways enough complaining how about some solutions. I was thinking about tanning some defenition into my legs- creatively applying sunscreen to make it look as though i have muscles even though I don't.

This is a stopgap solution until my hair grows back so if anyone has any experience with this I have some questions:

1. what SPF should I be using?
2. I live in FL but should I visit a tanning bed for faster results?
3. what is the best pattern to use?
3a. should I put sunscreen on the parts that I want to look muscular or should I trace the outlines of muscles with sunscreen?
4. how fast does leg hair grow?

Thanks!

You don't tan "defenition" in, you ride until you get ripped.

Don't cheat.

Don't feed me that line of crap unless you're going to pony up some photos of your yoked quads and calves.

i looked alright, i shaved, now i'm lookin' kind of wimpy and need to look halfway-decent while i wait for my hair to grow back. I don't plan on bragging about my definition or doing anything to draw attention to this horrible, horrible mistake.

Start sulking and mumbling, then. Say your cat died if anyone asks.

Seriously dude, just sport your shaved legs. If you're that insecure then why did you shave them in the first place? Just man up and sport them, people probably won't even notice for the most part. If they do just tell them their mom likes it.

Before you go all medieval and angry with the leg, I would suggest you wait it out for a couple of weeks minimum. It does take some time for your eyes to get used to looking at the difference in looks. It took me about 3-4 weeks. Now, I continue to shave regularly. I can guarantee you that the only one that can tell anything is YOU!! If your legs are skinny and non-muscular, you can bet your mother's kidneys NOBODY is looking at them anyway.

Im really not sure if this is a joke or not.

If it is, its not really funny.

If it isnt, im kinda worried that there are people that think like this in the world. Today its tanning definition into your legs, tomorrow its killing your family with a hammer while wearing a childs head as a hat.

Seriously, stop being so vain, hair grows back. Either keep shaving and ride more or stop shaving and attach the helmet mirror and reflectors, dont fanny around with sunbeds.

Shaved legs are a badge of honor for me! A group a guys I ride with determined that we must have 200 miles in before we shave them. If your riding with hair, we know you aint got your miles, so get out there and ride. I have been shaving since '92, from March to November. (gets cold here in IL) Cant imagine looking down at my gams and seeing hair as I ride

What a load of nonsense. I've ridden thousands of miles without shaving my legs, so if you're going off that assumption you're mistaken. I don't race so I don't need smooth legs for massages nor have I ever had road rash severe enough that it would make sense to shave my legs. I don't race so crashing is something that I have rarely experienced.

Oh, and it's you're. I'd feel much worse not having a good command of English grammar than I would looking at hair on my legs.

HTFU.

What...someone had to say it?

Those chicken legs poking out from the shorts should be a newfound motivation to ride, not look at how to apply sunscreen to provide some sort of weird leg-diorama of muscle definition.

Only professional bike racers, women, transvestites and posers shave their legs. Just let the hair grow back and put this embarrassing episode behind you.

Quick shout out to Doc Pete - thats a nice set of guns you got there brother!
Shave or not, makes no difference to me. I've done both and am currently hirsute. The definition is nice and besides, its tradition.
http://davesbikeblog.squarespace.com...on-you-wi.html

However, I don't judge anyone, even fat guys on Cervelos, by whether they're shaved or not. As long as they're cycling. Your whining though is more girlish than your legs. And the notion about tanning in some definition?
Disturbing, sad, and funny.

Well, having been away from racing I can say that they've deteriorated slightly. And now I own a Cervelo, so I'm just another fat guy on a Cervelo.
