Trek 5.2 Madone Best Price?
Hi,
I went to my local bike shop and they offered me a 2008 Trek Madone 5.2 or 5.2 Pro for 2950.00 plus tax. Is this a good deal? The bike retails for like 3600-3700. Are the new models coming out soon? Is that the reason for the price drop? Does anyone know what the dealer price for this bike is? Would you recommend one over the other?
Thanks for your help.

Would you mind telling me what LBS is selling a 5.2 Madone Pro for $2950.00?
And the 5.2 has not always been eligible for Project One. While Project One will be available for both 5 and 6 series Madone's, it is not live yet.

The name of the bike shop is cycle craft in Parsipanny NJ. They just had a sale and the sale is over but the manager said he would give it me for 2950.

the difference between the performance and pro edition is the length of the head tube, performance has 30 more mm in length, which gives less saddle to handlebar drop. this is a big difference. otherwise, the frames are the same and aside from a slightly more sloping top tube on the performance line (due to having a longer head tube), geometries are the same.
you should be discussing your fit with the lbs to determine which suits you best instead of worrying about the color scheme.
I got a 5.2 in June of this year, it's a great frame that i've raced the shet out of over the past 2 months. I got it to replace a cervelo R3 that I broke in a crash and it's every bit the equal to the cervelo performance wise, although the cervelo is a wee bit more plush.
the price you're stating is very good.

you do understand that trek has a website that will answer this question.

OP that seems to be a pretty good price on the 5.2's but as stated earlier you really should be talking with your LBS about what you are looking for in a ride to decide between the two...

Unfortunately due to EXTREME demand for stock bikes, Project 1 never really got off the ground for 08.
The 09 Project One looks AMAZING though. The pics my coworkers brought home from Trek World (Trek's own interbike) last week look really cool. There should not be any problems this year with P1, Trek wont have to supply an insane amount of bikes for Astana this year since they will be using the same bikes for '09 save for a few extras for damaged frames and new riders to the team.
As for that price on the '08 5.2 it is a good price. The shop I work at and most of the local shops still arnt lowering prices from our origianl retail of $3200. Get em fast, Ride it fast, Have fun fast, but be safe fast.

Project One has been available for the 6 series. This fall it will be available for the 5 series too. You can also get the Project One paint schemes as repainting of your 2008 Madone. For a solid color scheme it is $400 +/-.

That's a good price. Now that you have broadcast the name of the shop to all bike forum members, it may behoove you to put some money down to hold you a bike while you decide between the Performance and Pro models.

The new project one is pretty ******. You can pick everything down to your housing color. But if you like the 08 paint jobs, you may not like the 09's. Lots more color as opposed to black with highlights on the 08's.
And thats a really good price. They're around $3600 here, for the 08's.

i heard you can get "custom" stock colors if that makes any sense, with little upcharge with a 7 day turn around, who knows what the final word will be for real though.

Yes, you will sit a little more upright with the Performance model and have less saddle to bar drop than you would with the Pro model.

you should definately ask your dealer about this. i've heard its rumored to be true. its unlikely that you would get a deal on it though.

It's true. Everything on the bike is build to your specs. You chose your frame level of OCLV, the color, the group set, the components, wheels, bar tape, etc etc. They'll build it for you and get it to you in 7 days. I can't remember the cost for all that custom work. It's either free or $100 extra.

I've been riding a Specialized Roubaix for 2 years and its served me well. But I find myself longing for something that will accelerate and climb better than the Roubaix, even at the cost of a little plushness. Only recently did my dealer (sells Specialized and Trek) convince me to have a look at the Madone. I am going on a test ride of the Madone 5.2 tomorrow.
