I lost 48 lbs in 3 days!
From my bike! After 2 and a half days on an Amtrak train coming home!
I just finished a 2,000 mile self supported tour and weighed my loaded rig, 70 lbs with a normal load of food and water. My three friends and I rode 60-70 mile days, often as many as 8 days in a row without a rest day for 5 weeks. I swam in every great lake except Huron, saw the headwaters of the mississippi and met tons of awesome strangers who often opened their homes to us along the way.
My steel road bike - 22 lbs with fenders! I just exhausted myself on a very hilly 8 mile ride, going as fast as I possibly could. I think I lost some speed, because I did a very similar 17 mile ride just before leaving and averaged only 1 mph lower than on this little 8 mile ride.
Still, between the 48 extra pounds and the added drag from all the panniers and 35c tires, I felt like I was on a rocket! Hurray weight weenyism!
