Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best Road Tyre Conti V's Vittoria?

Hello fellow cycling Bretheren's,

Wondering what the preferred 700c x 23mm Road tyre is.

The Conti Grand Prix 4000 or the Vittoria EVO Open Corsa CX?

I have been running Conti GP 4000's for 4 years without any real dramas at all but have noticed that after 2000-2500 Km's the Conti's get pretty square ( loose their shape).

Actually had 1st flat in 8 months this morning. Real happy bout that!!!- NOT!!! Just when I was feeling like I was in the zone after 30 of a 80 k ride..... and PSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

There is about .5mm (if that) of the tread dimple on the Conti 4000's and they have quite a few snake bites on them,

One of my cycling buddies swears on the Vittoria Corsa CX's and is trynig to get me to give em a go.
I love the way the Conti's corner but me mate reckons the Corsa's handle and wear better than the Conti's. I realise that snake bites are unavoidable but seems to be heaps more on my Conti 's than his Corsa's

I have used the Michellin's and they seem to wear even quicker than the Conti's.

Is there a huge diff in the two (Conti - Vittoria) tyres compounds?

Any one have any views and preferances?

I asked a similar question recently except I also included the Michelin Pro Race 2. There is no easy answer to your question but I decided to choose the Continental GP 4000S model and so far they are very nice. I like the smooth roll but the ride is a bit harsh compared to older Vittorio's I had been riding. The Vittorio CX's may ride better but the Conti's may be more durable for training. By the way Probikekit.com has great prices on the Conti's.

Thanks, Mike.
