Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oval Concept Road Stems - How are they?

Does anyone use Oval Concept road stems? What do you think of them? Is the reverse bolt mounting really better or is it just marketing hype?

Thanks for your help!

Stiff and pretty light. Lots of contact area between the bar and stem. They also look quite alright.

If not for my infatuation with Weight Weenie gear, I'd use their stuff.

The only thing I don't like, are the warranty stipulations.

They won't honour the warranty on their carbon fibre handle bars if they aren't used with an Oval stem.

Oval Concept

They are one of the best stems I've tried. The reversed screws are not hype. They really work, and you don't worry about overtightening.

Not so light, but very very stiff. Actually the absolute stiffest I have ever ridden on. They do have a collar on the steering tube that is taller than other stems, so you have to compensate with a half-spacer.

Nothing wrong with them. It's a little harder to get to the bolts and I'm not a huge fan of the silver-colored clamp portion, but you really can't beat the price. Reasonable weight too.

The rear facing bolts were a minor inconvenience. It makes adjusting more difficult, and my park multi-allen tool won't fit there to work with.

Aside from claimed aero benefits of having the bolts on the backside, I don't see what the benefit would be.

I have one, great stem for the price. Perfectly functional.

The reverse mounted bolts are a PITA in my opinion, especially with a mount for a computer on the stem.

But for the price, I would certainly buy one again.
