Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why did you take his helmet off and take a pic of it?

a few months ago i went by an old gentleman in that same old helmet, old wool jersey, old steel bike and he was keeping very respectable pace. he was probably in his 80's. He looked like he probably destroyed people on that bike when he was younger.

There's a guy that rides around town here that wears a Steelers helmet. Authentic, game ready Steelers helmet. Anyone else from Altoona, Pa here? You've probably seen him. Not on a road bike, unfortunately...or fortunately, I don't know how to look at that. I do sort of admire him though, he rides everywhere.

Only thing that does is keeps the big pieces of your head strapped together when the paramedics scrape your corpse off the street.

Not exactly a ton of head protection.

Awesome. I love the old school hairnet look. Classic Merckx 1970's. Too bad it offers no protection in a crash. I have a Red/white/and blue one that I keep hung up in my "bike room" for decoration right next to a Bernard Hinault Tour de France poster from the early 80's.

You have Roethlisberger who doesn't wear a helmet while riding anything and a cyclist who probably bathes with that helmet on....assuming he bathes at all.

What's going on in PA?
