SRAM 11-28 Question
Could use confirmation from the wrenches here. I just ordered a SRAM 11-28 for my tri bike online. It came and the smallest cog is stamped 12T and has 11 teeth. Even knowing that SRAM leaves one tooth per cog off, shouldn't this be stamped 11T and have 10 teeth on the smallest cog? Trying to determine if what I got is wrong. Thanks in advance.

The smallest cog on SRAM cassettes doesn't have a missing tooth.

So, what you're saying is that my online shop shipped the wrong cassette, or slapped together the wrong cogs? According to what I see on the web, it is supposed to consist of the following:
Cassette Cogs 11-28: 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 24, 28
Mine as the following stamped: 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 22, 25, 28
There are several in there that make no sense to me, not the least of which is that there are 9 cogs, not 10 on mine.
Think it's going back and I'm going with a reputable dealer.

A 10 speed cassette should definitely have 10 cogs. and an 11-28 cassette does definitely have an 11 tooth cog.
So you probably have the wrong cassette... or a hodge podge.
EDIT: It actually sounds like you have some sort of 10 speed, but missing the small cog...

Thanks, I may have figured that out, missing the 11T to be sure, but why do I have the 22 in lieu of the 21 and the 25 in lieu of the 24?

Actually, the set is supposed to be
11-12-13-14-15-17-19-22-25-28
(I've got one..NOT missing the smallest cog )

Yep, missing the 11. That's kind of important seeing as you need that to lock it on the hub. FYI, SRAM ships it in the box with the 11 tooth cog underneath all the rest, NOT on top.

Correct, because the notches for the splines (what are they called?) don't go all the way through the 11, and therefore they won't fit on their speed loader.

That's a bit off topic, I hope you're not looking to indirectly insult the OP for his equipment choice.

Ha. Thanks all for helping me solve the riddle.
I'm beyond being offended--at least as it relates to triathlon. I moved from a compact crank on my road bike to a regular sized crank on my tri bike, and hence I moved to the 11-28 to keep a granny. I "compete" (not that I beat anybody at all) on a broken knee (tibial plateau) that was repaired three times in 2006-07. Hence, I will never be fast, and while I get stronger, I need to take it easy on the knee, particularly out of the saddle.
