Not necessarily, I walked on a broken fibula for ~36-48 hours. Recovery time was the typical time for bolting bones back together. Actually went off crutches faster than most.

I think that's where this thread divides. I get the idea of not quitting and achieving goals.
However, a lot of people don't see finishing a routine century to be such a big deal. But it's all relative.

I've been around sports and served in the military most of my life. There is a signifigant difference between people who set themselves to achieve goals and ones who don't. Most goal oriented people dont let anything get in the way, and focus only on the goal. Its something you have or dont, and you will not understand if you dont have it. Obviously this was a major goal for him and he was going to let nothing get in the way. Others who do not set goals begin to look for reasons to quit, and everytime you quit, quitting becomes that much easier the next time.

At 10% of needing 10 races to upgrade I would concur with your assessment.

I've broken both of my Fibulas, one healed on it's own, one I got operated on. If it needs surgery and you don't get it, it will destabilize your ankle which is the primary job of the Fibula in the first place.
Wanna impress me, break your Tibia, walk on that, and report back with the results.
Regarding the consensus that the NYC Century was not worth completing we do not know what he was riding for so we truly cannot make that judgment.
The point of the post was that he was able to complete it in his condition after deciding it was worth completing.

Go check out some of the mountain bikers...they put the H in HTFU.
I have ridden with dislocated joints, broken ribs, and with bandages from knee to ankle to stem bleeding.
And that's nothing compared to some of the stuff I have seen.
