Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

TREK, Contador, Levi

poop on them all you want. Had they entered all three GTs this year, they would have won all three. Maybe Contador TdF and Vuelta with Levi taking the Giro.

Harsh on Levi all you want....he's tough as nails even if he can't attack. Sort of like Cadel Evans.

I am even more intrigued to see what Lance is gonna do. I just can't see him wearing Astana colors next year. He is as American as Apple (tm) pie and it just doesn't make sense. And why the hell would Contador NOT want to battle Lance for the TdF crown. Best race eva!

Just saying.

Most ppl are Trek fanboys, that's why people hate them. I don't necessarily hate them, but I'm one of the people who thinks someone who has a Treks bought it cus 'that's what Lance rides'.

Anyway, I hope Levi wins the Vuelta...are there any TT stages left?

You CAN'T see Lance wearing Astana colors next year? Well, here are a few reasons he might:
1. Johann Bruyneel, the overwhelmingly obvious choice for his DS happens to run the Astana ship, along with much of the old Discovery staff.
2. Astana also happen to be the strongest Grand Tour team, something Lance obviously understands the importance of.
3. Chechu Rubiera, Lance's favorite domestique, just resigned for another year with Astana, after having decided to retire
4. Trek/Bontrager, Lance's longtime sponsors and collaborators, also happen to sponsor Astana.
5. Astana(at least before Katusha popped up) openly commands the biggest budget in the cycling world, very useful for hiring whatever domestiques and climbers Lance might find useful.

Could you tell us some of the reasons that Lance won't ride for Astana?

no, no, no...don't get me wrong. I know he'll ride for Bruyneel/Astana. I just have a hard time seeing it. Sure he'll ride Trek..but SRAM? Notice how Trek has New Madones up with the latest Dura Ace.

Apple pie may be Britsh...so he's as American as Jerry Garcia then.

Debatable. The testing during the TdF is far more stringent (and serious) than in the Giro. Do a little research - Ricco, for example, may have tested positive during the Giro, but the authorities did nothing about it. Let's just say that there's a chance Astana is the same ol' Astana... but wait, with the dirt Discovery now! Great.

He's a good guy, sure. Montana boy.

He's going to get caught doping. He no longer has that "scientific" data to lean upon and fend of accusers. That data has been debunked and is rendered, essentially, nil.

the Schlecks. Schumacher. Gerdemann.
That's just a start.

Gerdemann, by the way is a) young and b) tougher than most other riders on the ProTour (or whatever it will be called now). During a TT early in the season he crashed badly, got back on his bike and finished the TT within seconds of winning the stage and possibly taking the GC for the race. Oh, but when he finished, he got off his bike and the medics came up to him: he broke his leg when he crashed. The kid can climb, he knows his tactics, and he's a great guy (similar to Jens Voigt in personality, according to accounts from various riders). So.... yeah, I'd rather see him win than an as* like Armstrong.

Trek has been buddies with Shimano since the late 1990's.

Astana has Contador, and that's all they really need.

I'm not particularly partial to any brand of frame, but ended up with a used Madone when the right deal came along (I was considering EVERYTHING used or new). The only stand-out performance feature of the frame is that it really tracks well through hard cornering on bad roads, and I imagine a lot of the high-end CF frames can claim this.

The haters can look forward to occasionally losing to a guy with hairy legs on a Trek. I guess that's better than the old steel bike they were occasionally losing to this season.
