I'm so confused. Can someone translate what happened? Why was the guy running with antlers and a US flag? Why did the rider take it from him? Why did he then throw it on the ground?

Teh guy with antlers is at a lot of big races, TDF, TDC, TDG etc. and Fletcha was just having fun.
I've seen pictures already where riders have swapped helmets with the motorbike riders! (I think at the Giro). riding your bike for hours on end for a 2 weeks straight can start to get a little boring. ; )

Indeed anybody who thinks that Flecha or the French commentators had an anti-American agenda certainly have no clue what this is all about. It was a practical joke and it could have been any flag.

Yes i think that was obvious. And I thought it was entirely playful.
However, once he had the flag it would have been more respectful to hand it to another spectator. I am no jingoist, but Flecha's actions are, by definition, disrespectful to the flag.
