Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Odd Trainer/computer question.

I plan on using my single speed road bike on a trainer during the winter. If I buy a computer like the sigma 1606L will the cadence still work even though the speed sensor is on the front? I'm not concerned with speed/distance on a trainer, but cadence would be nice.

Cadance has nothing to do woth speed - Cadance is strictly how fast you are pedalling, in RPMs

I understand that. I'm asking if computers will still transmit and display the cadence without the front wheel moving. And being a singlespeed I could translate the cadence into speed easily if I wanted anyways.

Yes, the cadence will still work. It is a separate sensor that goes on the crank and chainstay - so if the cranks are turning the cadence will display even if the front wheel is stationary.

Alright thanks. I'm just worried the unit might go into sleep mode or something if the speed sensor gets nothing for a while. Guess it might even vary by model.

I have a Sigma and I just spun the cranks while the computer was asleep (bike sitting still) and the computer display lit right up.
