Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Who here owns a $160 Campagnolo Record water bottle cage(or the $125 Elite)? I spend a lot of money on the details, but this is just stupid(IMO).

They're totally worth it. They boost my coolness factor so much when I tell the other riders "I keep telling the sponsors I only have room for two of these on my bike but they just keep sending me more and more. Sheesh you'd think they'd listen, but noooooo. I mean, you know how sponsors are right?"

Arundel +Assos bottle (x2) = Pimp

Then you take an old bottle, cut it up, put your tubes, tools, and co2 in it and toss it in the back of your jersey if you really need two bottles of liquid on the frame. Style.

Assos makes bottles?

They also make stuff you smear on your butt.

I have a couple King titanium bottle cages that sell for about $50 each. That's almost as dumb.

yeah, well, My $5 steel cages will pwn those Campy cages. I could think of much better things to spend $160 on. Like more bibs. Or jerseys. Or schwagg. Or textbooks. But seriously. $160 for a water bottle and cage?!?! That's worse than those 1k brake calipers.

Those King cages are a bargain when you consider how durable they are. I have a set of those that I bought in the early 90's and they've out lasted several of the mountain bikes they've been on.

I'm not against spending a little too much for a superior product, but $160 for a CF cage is insane. All my friends thought that the $125 Chris King headset (I bought in 1992) was a waste of money, but it's still as smooth as butter.

Just curious, are they schwag from a sponser, or did you pay close to the MSRP for them?

I didn't pay hardly anything for them. I actually have an extra one as well. I bought the bike from a friend who runs a race team. He gets the stuff really cheap. He also sold me a carbon seat:

And carbon wheels:

But I don't race with either of them (seat or wheels).

He's a nice guy and gave me an excellent deal for the lot.

I never understand the reason for these threads. If I have the money to purchase the product, and I want to buy the product, even for a trivial reason. How is that stupid ???

Jealous much?

while i can understand not racing on a cf saddle, what's the point in owning those wheels if your not going to race them?

I really don't know. Just never have. I use them on tough, climbing stuff (i.e. Mt. Mitchell).

Peace. I'm Audi 5000 (do the kids still say that?)

Jealous much?? Not even slightly. I was curious why someone would pay that much for a product that's no better than others like it.Every review I've seen has been less than complimentary(even from the Campagnolo lovers). It's $160, it comes with cheap steel bolts, it breaks easily, and it doesn't hold onto the bottle well. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I think the funniest thing about this, is that you think people are jealous of a 150$ bottle cage.... literally one of the most ******** purchases you can make.

So, do you own a set of these, or are you just defending people that are stupid enough to spend $160 on a Campagnolo cage?
