Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You are definitely a regular and a respected poster in my mind.

First off you wouldn't have said half the inflammatory things that some moderators have done.

Second, I have faith that you would have been more communicative about why certain actions were taken, presenting rational reasons and entertaining objections from members.

Finger pointing isn't supposed to fix things, but it can help reveal what the real problem is.

Most of us are mad about who did it and what was done and how it was handled.

you wouldn't have, or at the very least, you wouldn't have done it in such an undiplomatic manner.

Miamijim is way out of line, especially in the PhotoNick thread. He does not belong in this forum and is doing nothing to help Bike Forums in general.

Regarding some of the other mods, even though I respectfully disagree with the RyanF ban, Lowcell has always been reasonable, as has Brian.

Fact is you're not. Slow, maybe. I think you should take up randonees. Spend more time in the long distance forum. No more sprints. Eat more ketchup.

LowCel...to answer your question...it's a little of everything. It would be completely different if you had done it becuase you wouldn't have done the same things to the same extent. Closing a thread about waking up at 5am to go ride because it is "off topic"...

...we can still say wtf right?....or is that off topic.

Seriously...what's left to talk about? Clipless fallovers and sleepy peepee?

Flip-it

8 pages of posts and no one has pointed out that it all comes down to flipping it.

Look, I don't know what happened. Moderating these internet message boards is about as effective as it is to take something personally from some entity with an avatar and name that are unrecognizable.

I have lurked and been a member here for years. I don't post frequently. I look for information. Occasionally I find humor, often I find nonsense. Its pretty much like the world in general.

If you are willing to post on the internet, you have to accept that someone else has the right to disagree with you. That's what used to be called free speech and what used to make America worth something.

Sticks and stones, and words. There are some caustic posters on here. There are some caustic people in my office too. If you can't figure out how to deal with them or avoid them, I can assure you that there isn't a moderator in the office going to swoop in and handle them.

The road forum has a culture that doesn't often suffer fools. Don't change the culture.

It's a direct attempt to make the Road Cycling forum as poorly traveled as the Mechanics and C&V forums.

Scoreboard guys. Road Cycling forum has been the model of what should be deployed elsewhere...not the other way around.

You have to either give this miamijim dude a massive quaalude or a pink slip as a moderator. You'll be saving his life. He takes this all so seriously he'll surely die of a brain aneurism if he's allowed to continue. I would characterize his actions as a moderator as idiotic, but that would be in clear violation of BF Rules. So I would never actually do that.

Look at it this way: if you can him as a moderator, he'll have more time for his side job as S. Palin's Foreign Policy Consultant. So it's a win-win.

^^^ding ding ding we have a winner....a certain mod's posts have clearly created a rift in the forum and now 9 pages of thread later we are still arguing over it. He was clearly not MOD-erating and clearly not MOD-erate in his post...does the mod still deserve to be a mod....

Again I say, if he had been moderating the subforum that he came from where he might for all I know (i have never read C&V) be respected and liked this probably wouldn't have happened...Make mods subforum specific and when there are huge issues all the mods can vote on problems together...otherwise a mod should only be limited to a small amount of power.

I prefer moderators to leave the complaints alone and let people deal with it (with exception to dire situations), this is just an extension of real life nuisance such as receiving a 911 phone call over a trivial matter or going to the emergency room so the nurse can band-aid you over a small paper cut. Frightening trend really.

With the amount of traffic in Road, too much work for the mods. Plus, it will scare off new members, the more obstacle you establish for people just to come here and post, the more likely they'll run elsewhere.

I concur
