Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tips to get faster

Greetings. I'm a noob looking to get faster on my bike so that next year I can try doing some crits. I'll give you an idea of my horrid cycling endurance at the present. Yesterday I rode 30miles, at 17.3mph average over rolling hills. I'm new to cyling (doing it for 2 months on a road bike) and looking for any advice. Thanks in advance!

You'll want to get some base miles under your belt first. This is the time of year that a lot of people are "shutting it down" for the season and focusing on lower intensity endurance like riding. I would concentrate on just getting out on the bike and putting the time in.

Then intervals will be your friend, actually they won't, they will do everything in their power to kill you, but they will help in the long run. There are enough threads on BF that you can look through and gain some useful info (remembering of course that there are a lot of opinions out there).

Hope this helps.

^^
