    New to biking

Hi, I recently just got into biking.I I just bought a mountain bike (Canondale) used. I've been riding the trace that we have, and I love riding. I wanna get a Road bike and eventually Race. What road bike should i get I dont wanna spend much more than $2000, something thats a little better than a entry level and enough to race in. Is that possible? I was checking out a Felt ZW5, but didn't really see any reviews. Would that fall into that category? Also, I'm very short, 5'3, so I'm assuming it would have to be a small bike. Thanks for any suggestions!!!

    New biker.

    Hello,

I was just wondering what kind of road bike would you guys recommend to me for a first time rider, I'm not looking to spend too much at first, I'd just like to get the hang of it. Thanks a lot!

I am a 6’ 4” student living in London looking for an entry-level road bike between 200-300. I give my height because I have read that frame sizes vary and suit cyclists of different heights.

Over the past year I have ridden a fairly battered mountain bike, which I recently fitted with slick tyres. These have been fine, but the gears simply do not go high enough for going fast on straight, flat roads (the reason why I am beaten by my female flatmate on her road bike!) and their frames are too heavy to accelerate fast and quickly build momentum.

Now that my daily commute to university will be 22km minimum, 37km if you include the days I cycle to the river and back to train for rowing, I need something faster!

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hi all, also a new guy looking to get my first road bike. I've found a 2010 CAAD9 6 in my size for 950$ with Tiagra everything except Sora rear derailleur. Is this a good deal, good entry level road bike?

The only that makes me hesitate in buying it is the LBS seems a little sketchy compared to others I've looked at (pushy, not as friendly, no mention of any free service/fit/ect with the bike like other stores).

I just recently purchased a road bike and am looking to go on my first "major" ride tomorrow. It will be approx 30km. This may not seem very far to others, but i'm only beginning and looking to get in shape from my soccer days . Anyways, what do you reckon is a good speed/cadence for this route? Its very moderate with a couple of hills. I will be going 10 km into the wind and 20 km with tail/crosswinds. I already researched .

Don't leave home without them. Bib shorts may be more comfortable though.

It doesn't look like many questions are being answered here.

Why do the most popular threads in this forum get locked?

That seems like a weird way to grow website traffic.

What does it mean when somebody uses numbers like : 53x14. What does this actually look like on the bike?

53x14 means to be on a 53 tooth ring on the front and a 14 tooth cog on the back.

    Going modern

    Hello!
I've been riding on a beautiful steel Bottecchia with a downtube friction campy group for the past few years; to commute as well as fun rides (typically 40 to 60mi) a few times a week. A good friend practically gave me a 2010 dura ace group and I have no clue where to start in the building process. As far as new frames (carbon or aluminum), wheelsets, etc. My main concern is switching from a steel frame. I love a stiff ride and have my eye on a cannondale 2.8 until I can spend more cash on something made in the past decade . Any tips or recommendations on some frames? I am soooo excited to be able to shift without moving my hands from the handle bars.. climbing will never be the same!
    Thanks!

Stiff frame? Go for the Cannondale CAAD line. CAAD9 or CAAD10. But it all depends on how much you want to spend. If you have money you could get a carbon frame.

For the sake of not creating a new thread, does anyone know what cycling gear is and isn't allowed on carry-ons in airplanes? I'm going home for Spring Break and I plan on bringing my helmet back and maybe the stock toeclips/pedals that came off my commuter (hoping to pick up a set of clipless pedals and shoes when I'm at home). I'm assuming tools aren't allowed, and neither are fluids, so that rules out my allen wrenches and chain lube.

I think the shoes and helmet will be ok to take on. Tools must be less than 7 inches in length.
Here is a full list of what is and isn't allowed.

Hello everyone, first post here. No specific questions yet, just a basic introduction (moderators -- please don't be shy about moving this post to the proper forum if this is in the wrong spot!)

I am a mid-30s father of two young boys (age 4 and 1.5.) I am a "suit" with a moderate-stress desk job and have ate, slept, and breathed golf for most of the last 20 years.

All that said, I am also a 30+ year Type 1 diabetic. Never had a problem with weight, but my cardio fitness sucks. I don't like to swim and I absolutely HATE running. Did a lot of fitness cycling as a teenager, since I was a decent high school and junior tennis player, and I've decided it's time to start again. I know this is an activity that I enjoy and that it will "take" as a long-term commitment to staying in shape.

Just picked up a decent road bike (KHS Flite 320) on Craigs last week that fits me very well, and I am drawing up an introductory training program.

Good to find the forum. More to come.

    Regards,
    -Matt in Atlanta
