Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Whey Protein Isolate - anything wrong with this stuff?

Trying to find some whey protein powder for post ride that's not going to break the bank or put unwanted junk into my system.

Hammer Whey: $1.25 per serving

All The Whey: .65 cents per serving

The cost is about half of Hammer and I'm not seeing anything bad. Am I missing anything?

Looks ok, i use similar stuff all the time, not sure it makes any diferrence though

Its hard to tell i think if expensive brands are any better, especially if the content is similar !

If you don't use it already, buy a little bit and try it. The stuff really messes up my stomach and now I have unused big things of it around the house.

The "isolate" has more grams of actual protein although there are no actual standards from what I here. Check the label and see how many grams of protein per serving.

I've used different brands and they are not all the same. Taste differs and things like solubility is also much different - cheap brand was hard to get the lumps out.

I use this stuff... https://www.vitafly.com/100-whey-protein.html Pretty cheap if you guy the 10 lb bag. Even if you get the 5 lb jug, it's cheaper than the stuff you noted.

One good thing that I noticed is that it contains 25g of protein, that is a good amount and that its isolate. I use GNC's 100% whey and its only 20 or 21g of protein.

You always want Isolate. The body uses pretty much all of it, as long as you're not taking more than 50g every 3 hours (I recommend only 40g to my customers). Protein isolates are also absorbed much quicker into the body. As was mentioned above, the mixability is also a big part of it. Isolate is a much finer powder and mixes very very well.

I can't see the label but if thats AllTheWhey brand it's good enough. Their whey protein concentrate is nasty though, as is all whey protein concentrate.

no, not all whey concentrates are "nasty". I've tried lots that are very good tasting.

All The Whey's protein is pretty high quality, and is better priced than you'll find most places. I've ordered from them quite a bit, and the taste is fairly decent for whey, especially the vanilla if you're using it in shakes with other ingredients. If you're drinking it straight, it tastes like dookie, just like most protein powders. I use their chocolate a lot in shakes with milk, peanut butter, and a banana...good stuff.

You can use this if you know what you want in your powder:

I can not recommend this strongly enough:

It should be fine. I just buy the Whole Foods brand, and it is fine.

From what I understand, there are only a few places that produce protein. A lot of what you see is going to be the same stuff. I could be wrong. But what you want to look for is basically all protein and no fat. Isolate will have the most protein per gram. Stay away from low quality whey with fat in it. For example, the stuff you posted has 1 calorie from fat which means it has 1/9 of a gram of fat in it. That's good. I don't see anything wrong with that protein.

I went with All The Whey stuff. Maybe next time I'll try the NutraBio or A1's Gold Standard.

I work out and have a degree in Kinesiology (exercise science). You really do not need protein supplementation because you can pretty much get all of your nutrition needs through regular food. If you feel as if your meals are leaving you deficient in protein, then you should take protein supplements. Plus, regular food tastes much better than that powder protein.

Hammer Whey has a big helping of Glutamine...worth it for that assuming you want to take both whey isolate & glutamine.

Just noticed that. Makes me think of switching from the NutraBio stuff, otherwise a great product.
