Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mine was kind of a drag; it's started getting dark early enough now that I can't ride after work without lights, which is not convenient for a number of not-terribly-valid reasons, and I've been busy on the weekends for the last couple of weeks.

As a result, my 10 mile round trip commute has made up a significantly higher portion of my mileage this month than fitness riding has, despite my having discovered a pretty nice new route.

work sent me to puerto rico for work for 2 weeks. it was crazy hot, and i didn't get to ride at all, which is a damn shame because i saw some really beautiful roads out there, and saw some roadies with some very nice bikes (BMC, Litespeed, Felt DA, Madones, etc).

Can't really complain being sent to work in the carribean, but all the restaurant food and little excercise wiped out any fitness i had previously.

I hear you!! I'd have doubled my mileage if I didn't have to be in classes 15 hours a week, working 16 hours a week, commuting (by car ) 11 hours a week, commuting (by walking ) 3 hours a week ... and doing homework every evening.

I'm glad your September was so positive Machka, as mine really, really sucked. I just finished laying my youngest brother to rest (41) who died unexpectedly.

Lots of rain days. School takes up more of my time than I would like. Overall I guess it was all right. Didn't get the miles I wanted, but I saw unexpected speed gains

I blame it on the TT (11 miles on a day I typically do 50+) and the crank arm (lost 50 miles that day too).

I bunch of people were urging me to get that arm/hand x-rayed, it was pretty nasty looking after the crash. I told them to STFU. The swelling subsided, after 18 days the black and blue is almost gone and the soreness is 95% better.

It was great, I did my first century in over ten years, and have put in lots of miles. It's been a great month.

I started to ask from your first post why not more distance. But I see you are very busy.

I've either rode or run almost every day last month so I feel good.

It pains me to say it but I got ZERO miles in September. Late August I pulled my hamstring and I'm still trying to recover. I was thinking about trying to cycle this weekend.
