New to road bikes, sore abs?

I have recently bought a road bike and have been riding a good bit. the first week I ride about 10 miles each day after work and 30 on the weekend. legs werea little sore, but they always get sore after switching bikes it seems..

last week rode mountain 2 times and 30 miles on the road on Saturday.. Sunday and today my abs are sore just the lower abs though. Is this normal from bending farther or have I strained myself?? This happen to anyone else as I didn't think cycling worked the abs.

Not used to the big gearing and I usually ride in the middle chain ring even up some steep hills. My garmin etrex said the 2nd 30 mile ride had a total ascent of 2500ft.. so it's not exactly flat.
    I only pedal uphill.

I get sore abs a day after if I've done a lot of hills where I've had to stand while riding. It could be the hills?
Schwinn Skyliner - you'd be surprised what I can do with a $200 bike.

Or you're spending excessive time in the drops, which is common for people new to road biking.

It could also be that your bike is too big for you, forcing you to use your abs to hold yourself up.

bike could be on the large side, but not uncomfortable... maybe I'll try a slightly shorter stem if it continues or just develop massive abs. I'm between 5'9 and 5'10 and on a 56cm... I also fliped my stem up to fred mode before the 2nd ride so I could spend more time in the drops.. so it may be a combo of the two.
    I only pedal uphill.
