Destin florida!
Hey all, well l I am moving to destin florida and was wondering if any of you live there. Or know any one there, so I can get a new riding partner. Thanks. O, I bet the roads will be must nicer then here in Alabama. If you think your riding area is bad try riding here with all the rednecks with their puck up trucks.

I spent a few weeks working at Eglin AFB and staying in Destin a few years back. I kept thinking to myself..."I should have brought the bike"
Good luck.

I have visited the Destin area many times. West of Destin in a town called Navarre Beach. It was wiped out by Hurricane Opal, but now has more development than before. Navarre is on a barrier island wide enough for a road and some development on each side of the road. It is just east of the Santa Rosa National Seashore, so it's not all that crowded. There is a bike trail that loops between Navarre and Pensacola that I've wanted for years to ride, but since no one else in the family is a cyclist, I've never taken my bike with me on vacations there. Santa Rosa looks like a wonderful place to ride.

Don't know what part of Alabama you are in, Tim, but I've never had a run-in with the stereotypical redneck in a pickup truck in my area.
I moved here a little over 5 years ago from near Charlotte, NC. I had very few problems with motorists in NC and have had very few problems with motorists in AL. I've ridden quite a bit in Georgia and SC too and have found the motorist's behavior toward cyclists pretty much the same in each place.
I hope you enjoy Destin. It's a beautiful place.

I travel to Destin 3-4 times per year. Destin has a road cycling club that meets every Saturday or Sunday morning at the Eckerd Drugstore in Niceville just north of Destin. They ride across the Midbay Bridge into Destin. I cannot think of the name of the club's website, but you can find out more details there if you use a search engine. That whole area is quite cycle-friendly with wide bike lanes beside most roads. My favorite ride is blasting down golf cart paths on a cyclocross bike. I trespass a lot on the golf courses, because cycling down them is a lot more fun than playing that evil game. There are some scenic towns east of Destin and Sandestin that are a nice ride if you can tolerate the heat in the summer. I love everything about Destin. Great shopping and dining.
