Titanium Skewers...who uses them?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Titanium Skewers...who uses them?

Anyone here uses either of the three:

1. KCNC Ti skewer
2. Bold Precision Skewers
3. USE Spin Stix

Feedback please....thanks!

I don't use any of the ones you have listed but I DID use these

https://www.rainbowinternet.net/shops...talogue/c9/p12

which were really good on my R3 but gave me real slippage issues on my Van Nicholas Ti frame. No matter how hard I tried I just couldn't get enough clamping force. They have since been relegated to the parts bin and I now use these

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=19642

which are working out fantastic. Same weight but look very minimalist and are a LOT stiffer and secure.

I use Ti skewers from PBK. A 3rd of the price of any other Ti skewer and they do the job just fine.

I have been using the Bold Precision ti skewers for 4 years, and switched them form bike to bike. They still work awesome, and to my knowledge only Tune makes a lighter set.

Tune, Carbon-Ti, KCNC, Omni (M2 Racer), Heylight and Parts of Passion make QR's lighter than Bold's finest.

Them tune ones may be lighter but you have to carry a 300gram spanner around with you.

What would you need a spanner for?

The ones that do need a spanner come with it. The key weighs 4 grams.

Yes. They work fine on a carbon frame with aluminum dropouts. I don't know if they would work on a ti or steel frame. The harder dropouts require more force to keep the rear wheel from moving. The KCNCs have a fairly short lever and feel like they don't make a lot of clamping force but I haven't measured it so I don't know for sure.

Only ever used Ti skewers for a short period. Could not get them tight enough as Ti stretches. Thought it was me- but start of ride and they were tight. By around 40 miles on the first ride and rear wheel shifted. Loose QR. 2nd ride and after 20 miles got home. Took wheels off to clean them- Loose QR's. 3rd ride and checked after 20 miles- 30 miles and then cut ride short. Loose QR's.

Talked to the LBS and they found the same and they don't use them. All their bikes had XT QR's fitted as they liked them. I now use XT or Ultegra.

Especially since the difference between ti and crmo is usually ~20 grams per pair.

(This coming from a guy who wants to use alloy nipples just to make a wheelset come out sub 1400g instead of like 1410 )

They look cooler with your Kabobs and last a lot longer than the wooden ones.

KCNC works for me. They're not harsh on your hands when clamping and the cam has a nice lump in it so you know it will stay on.

You may have Ti skewers and not realize it; Mavic Ksyrium ES and above have them for road; Crossmax SLR and above for XC
