DA 7900 Compatibility - Official Word

Apparently the new 7900 shifters will work with all of the 7800 components, save the FD. I was under the impression that there was basically no backwards compatibility?
(Chart is kind of confusing when it comes to RD compatibility, this source states that the 7800 RD is OK with 7900 brifters: https://www.competitivecyclist.com/ro...5090.36.1.html)

It also won't work with the 7800 rear derailleur
