Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First Century

I know probably no big deal for a lot of you, but my wife and I completed our first today, in 5:45. Not bad, we timed our nutrition well and it worked out just fine. That was definitely the key. Good to get the first one out of the way, that was one of my goals for this season to knock out a century. Time for some ibuprofen and some rest. Perfect day also, fall colors, blue sky, and 70 degrees. Wish they were all like this.

Good job to you and Mrs. Jamis

It doesn't matter if it's a big deal or not for anyone here - it only matters that it's a big deal for you guys.

What a fantastic time! Let me ask, if you don't mind...was that total time or "rolling" time?

+1000. I never get tired of reading threads about people actually riding bikes. Particularly when such threads are so rare here.

Thanks for the compliments! We were pleased, we actually cut 5 min off the last 50, (2:55 + 2:50). Not feeling too bad today, hungry as heck though, she was too.

Excellent! I too recently met my goal for my first ever century this season. My time was 6 minutes longer than yours.
