Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah, can't bring myself to do the shoes-stay-on-the-bike thing. It would save me some time, though--maybe I'll work on that in the off-season...

Self admitted whoosh. I don't understand the shoe issue. What other shoe options are there?

Taken at the end of the Tour deCure. I rode a century on a 30 pound hybrid bike, with 32mm tires, complete with rack and fenders, and about an additional 6 pounds of gear in a trunk bag.

It was my commuter bike. I bought it at my LBS to use as an every day commuter. It was since sold and the proceeds went toward buying my TCR Alliance.

Oh, and BTW- I've lost about 10lbs since this event, so pics are not 100% accurate.

Tri shoes typically have only 2 straps for fast transitions. Easy off is the issue.

Tri-specific shoes usually have a single velcro strap and are quicker to get into/out of. Most elite-level triathletes leave their shoes on the bike and strap in once they're up and rolling, and get out of their shoes before dismounting.
