2006 Cannondale Six13 Pro...good, bad, thoughts?
I want to build up a cheapo bike for crit racing and other roadracing that I can just fling about and not give a darn if I smash it or not...I'm too scared to race my Look 595 in a cat 4/5 crit! The Look's for group rides, charity rides...other, safer, rides/races.
I found a 2006 Cannondale Six13 Pro frame for cheap...and I have all sorts of garbage left over components to build it up. Is this a decent frame? I'll be honest...I know NOTHING about Cannondale except their CAAD aluminum frames are supposed to be very good.
Thanks for opinions!

Yes.
But your excuse for not riding the LOOK is about the lamest thing I've ever heard in my life.

next year will be my first season of racing. and i've pretty much resigned myself to getting knocked around by cat 4/5 mcewen wannabes. i'm gonna wreck this c-dale or whatever i build up. maybe once i become a season racer and upgrade my cat, i'll race the Look!

I'm not sure what the 'pro' frame is compared to the vanilla everyday Six13 that I have. Maybe it's the one with the AL top tube. Anyway, I think my Six13 is a pretty stinkin' good crit bike. I've got very little to compare it to, but it certainly does everything I need it to do. Cannondales seem to fit me a little better than some other bikes, so maybe that's part of it.
If I were to come into a bunch of cash and get something really nice, I'd probably keep the C'dale around specifically to ride crits with. I guess that says something.

Very nice bike. I almost bought one a couple month ago. Very stiff, but not harsh. I liked it a lot. Fairly light too.

I have the Team Six13, both down and top tube are carbon. Pretty good, take the sting out of a just pure Al bike. Nothing wrong with it, fast, responsive and good road feel, very alive.

why is that so hard to understand? why is that so weird? i know several local cat3/cat2 riders that use nearly disposal bikes as their race bike...and use their $8000 custom Parlee or Colnago for group rides, charity rides, etc.
most middle to lower upper class people can replace a $1000-$2000 ride with very little problems. most middle to lower upper class people cannot nearly as easily replace a $6000-$8000 ride.

I raced USCF for the first time this season. I did over 30 races starting with CAT 5, then 4's, and Masters. In EVERY race I did this year there was a crash. And many of these guys cracked their carbon frames. Go to the Racing Forum and read the race reports. You'll see post from me saying why do you people race your nice carbon stuff out there. I was lucky I only went down once. I was on my CAAD9. I picked up straighten the levers sat out the lap and got back on. In that crash, 12 man pile up, 3 carbon frames got cracked.
Race what you can replace. Enough said.

i got my Look because I like it. i LOVE its aesthetics...and i love the way it rides...i like hammering on it on group rides..i like cruising on it by myself on solo rides...it's a cool bike. but it's not getting me laid any more or less than i used to...it's not getting me promotions at work...i'm not making new friends because of it...my old friends don't pay any more attention to me because of it, most of them actually think i'm the dumbest person on the planet for buying such an expensive bike...my fellow cyclists that i ride with thought it was cool the first time they saw it but now they don't freaking care...they're focused on RIDING and they're focused on their OWN bike.
if you think a bike is gonna bring you attention, you live in a very small sad world...

hey, the bike rocks...it has substance, not just style. but i ain't taking that in my first race. that's STUPID. i've never raced...i'm gonna be going in a cat5 and entering races with other cat5/cat4 riders. i've seen these guys...they're IDIOTS!!!!!! they f'ing mash and smash into anything and anyone around them. i'm not wrecking my Look 595 racing with f'ing hacks. i'll cut my teeth on a cheaper bike and use the Look when i'm riding with seasoned, competent riders.

People racing in that category are there for a reason. Because they do not know what they are doing and are trying to learn. Sometimes at the expense of those around them.
Good for you. And a great selection for a crit frame.

I bought my CAAD9 because it's a great race bike and because the frame would cause $400 to replace if something happened to it. Even if I'm strapped for cash, I can use my 2nd bike to race/train for a bit and then get another CAAD9 frame.
As Vireo and RW have both pointed out, racing what you can replace is that way to go. If you like nice bikes, you can enjoy them in training and in group/charity rides with riders you're comfortable with.
Post pics of your Six13 build up. I can't wait to see it! I love six13's. I would have loved to own one, but it was a little out of my price range when I was shopping around.

IMHO Cannondales are the best crit bikes when you take into consideration handling and cost. They all have the same geometry (essentially) which is perfect for crits, fairly steep head tube angle, longish fork rake and short wheelbase make for quick but very predictable handling, high bottom bracket lets you start pedalling earlier in a corner.
And as you noticed, they are very cheap. I got a used Caad 4 ($100) to race so if I dink the frame, I'll just go back on Ebay for another.
