Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Spousal perspective on Velo madness

So I take a rare day off the bicycle today (it's pouring rain) and my wife and I are running around doing errands, and I casually say to her 'you know honey, next year I think I'm going to take the training a little more seriously'.

She looks at me in utter disbelief and says 'I didn't think that was possible.'

So it goes.

Funny, I just said the same thing to my girlfriend a couple of days ago and got exactly the same look (think deer in the headlights).

She should be happy...

Knowing how much you ride, a true training plan will decrease your hours on the bike...

I hired a coach this year...

Power went up...

Hours on the bike went down...

Intensity > hours in the saddle...

I'm lucky. My wife MAKES me ride. Our 14 year old races and she can't go out alone. Even when she rides with her club I go because Mom want's it that way.

Hmmm....I got 12 years before I can pull that one.

I said, "I think I want to buy a cheap TT frame" and ended up in an arguement for the ages.

Then I topped it off with, "oh, and a powertap because I want to train more effecitvely next year."

I think I'm still married.

Far easier to do on your end of the gender spectrum.

No...it's pretty easy on this end as well. You just have to change your diet.

I was thinking more along the lines of having to remove the fish from your diet and adding some sausage and eggs.

Hey, I cut my teeth on BF, but that would be taking it a bit too far.

It hurts. I'm really hoping to make it to the oral surgeon before I'm compelled to fill this Tylenol with Codeine script that has been sitting in the drawer from my root canal guy for a while. So far the Aleve is working. But before that kicks in, it gets pretty bad.

Oral surgery sounds nasty? When your mouth hurts like that you're DYING to get into the chair and have them put you under. Trust me.
