Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My New First Bike: 07 Giant OCR 2

Well I picked up a 2007 Giant OCR 2 with zero miles from my LBS today for $900.00! Had them throw on a Sigma 506 computer. This is my first road bike and so far I love it! I looked and the 2008 and up switch to a lot of Sora components, glad I found this one!

Very nice bike, vdubkb. Have a great time--ride the wheels off it!

Well, that's unfortunate.

Do you have it where you want it? If you do, take it back to the shop and get set up with a non-adjustable one that matches the position your stem is in now.

I'm still new to this and am confused? Why is it unfortunate?

Don't worry about it. BT's just cranky because the weather's been bad where he is. It's part of the hazing you get when you're new here. Your bike's stem is fine, especially if it's comfortable for you. One of the standard responses to anyone who posts a photo of their new bike is to "flip the stem", or thereabouts.

Yours is an adjustable stem and those have been known to get a little loose and rattle a bit, but you should be fine. If it does loosen up, you might want to take BT's advice, God forbid, and get a fixed stem.

This isn't bad weather. If I can still ride in it and not end up dead. It's not bad.

Bravo. Now this was a friendly, helpful response. Would be nice to see more of these here.

Thanks to you, I see I've got an adjustable stem on the Coda and a fixed on the Forge.

My Giant came with the adjustable stem. It was good for setting up the way I wanted but soon developed creaks and other noises. I changed it out after about four months, after deciding on a 0 deg. rise fixed stem.

Enjoy the bike.

Thanks for your help BannanaTugger and Second Mouse, I will keep an eye on it. Racer one, it is new.

I just went out to the trail that runs close to my apartment and put a quick 20 miles on. Felt great! So far it feels set up right, we'll see what hurts in the morning haha. It is beautiful outside here in Tampa. It is 72 degrees and sunny out! Quite a bit of wind but It helped me on the way back.
