I want a TT bike

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Jamis has a nice set of TT bikes. Here's one at 2K MSRP.

My goal is to get one someday for riding to class, work, Kroger, etc. I'll put a little Schwinn computer on it and platform pedals.

I'd second the P2C. 90% of triathletes can't be wrong. Besides, it makes you unique.

Yeah, you're not buying any uniqueness with a P2C. A fast bike, though...

They aren't the real Edge, so they could be part of the deal.

I want one too.. For now I am sticking with swapping out my regular post and saddle for a fast forward seat post and my old saddle. I am also debating swapping out the stem. Need more experimentation with the position.

Are you training on those Blackwells or are they just for races? I'm looking for a wheelset I can do both on.

They're for race day only... No point riding day to day on carbon tubulars.

For $2999.99 you can get a Trek Equinox 9.0

https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes.../equinoxttx90/

It is the same aerodynamics as the top end frame, made of a bit more economical carbon layup, and is made in the USA.

Downside is that it is specced with 105, but a decent shop can fix that for you.

As for paying for it, do what I do. Use the Trek Credit Card and pay it off over a year.

P.S. Ive got the same bug as you right now, im thinking of a TT bike too. The Equinox 9.0 is the one im looking at.

You should consider getting the E7 and some pimpin' wheels. Very similar tube shapes, same spec, but $1000 cheaper.

Benz rides a P3... That guy has some serious dinero, though.

I liked my P2 a lot. I'd avoid Giant, though, you can definitely do better (especially for the money). Felt has some great inexpensive stuff, too. I just picked up a NOS S22 for next year... It's an awesome bike so far.

Congrats on a 10 mile run.

What was the mile-6 climb? Exposition and then Enfield when you take the left? The 2 climbs on Pecos before Scenic Drive? Or the climb that starts around the water stop on Scenic? (I know these climbs because one of my rides includes a loop of Exposition-Lake Austin Blvd-Scenic-Pecos-Enfield-Exposition) Do you lean a bit into the hill when running? Try it, you'll like it.

What is wrong with aluminum? You can also get a better fit because they have more than 3 sizes like the TTXs.

Thanks - I'm not sure which hill it was - it was in the Pecos/Scenic area. I actually walked a lot of the hills(I've been injured running on hills in the past), and walked the water stops too. I was sick week before last and didn't run or ride the whole week. Last Sat. I ended up in the ER for a separate issue - not a big deal but again I didn't train, so my plan was to walk/run since I was so far behind. I still managed an 8:24 average mile which surprised me.

The Giants are half aluminum half carbon. Top tube, seat stays, and half the seat tube are carbon. Downtube and chainstays and I think the head tube are aluminum. Suposedly for a stiffer drive train.

Unless you have unlimited funds, things other than frame will make the biggest difference. I'd figure out a budget, then plan on getting a rear disc, and a deep dish front wheel or trispoke, TT helmet, skin suit, booties. Figure out how much that's going to cost, and then buy whatever bike you can afford with what's left over.

A Leader frame with 105 components is going to be faster with all the above stuff, than an expensive frame with Dura Ace, but without all the go fast stuff.

I'd go with a low end Felt, pick up a TT helmet, and then a wheel cover as a disk, and a HED3 up front.

pardon my ignorance...I have no idea about bikes like this...but what makes this bike what it is for what it's used for? As in, why to triathletes use a bike such as this over a road bike? Are these even comfortable?

Aerodynamics, mostly. Body position, too.

Are these even comfortable?
Generally, not as comfy as a road bike, but TT's aren't really about comfort...
