"On top of the gear" Cycling expression...
Just wondered about the orgin of this term. It seems to me that it is a very accurate description of when you are riding hard, but you are able to maintain a good spin in the gear, without feeling that you are struggling to maintain the cadence. For me it is when I pedaling at the higher end of my preferred cadence range.

top gear! it's like a british saying... when i pass someone i say "top gear!" and it is sort've like "tally-ho my good man" only it's for us cyclists...
