Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Are these brake pads the same?

I'm trying to replace my front brake pads and was interested in Sheldon's recommendation of the Kool Stops Mountain Salmon. I was wondering if the ones he referenced on his site were the same as these ones on eBay? Thanks for any help.

I'm aware that they're BOTH mountain pads... I'm trying to establish whether or not they're the SAME mountain pads...

If your brakes, caliper or cantilever, use threaded hardware, the "Mountain" model is the very best you can get, for road or off road use.

Yes, they are the same with just different logos and stuff on them - one says BMX and ones says MTB. Just marketing I suppose..

But those won't fit a road bike.

And yes, they work wonderfully.

This probably would have worked better in mechanics or mtb subforums.

Those are for V-Brakes, not road calipers.
Scroll down to Dura ace/ultegra refills on sheldon's (RIP) site.

and canada uses both, as long as we're consistent.

And my cantilevers use threaded stem style V-brake pads, so they're not limited to MTB style V-brakes.

It's an American dictionary, a British dictionary will spell it with 'S'.

What? Of course they will. It'll look a bit funny, because the hardware will stick out pretty far from the brake caliper, but it'll work. Man, it's hilarious when people give mechanical "advice" in the road forum...

EDIT: Saying that they will fit is not idle speculation. I've done it myself. Looks funny, but it works.

but then you're on the road forum where that excess hardware is not aero and weighs too much so thats a no-no.
