Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any Customized Trek FXs Out There?

I have a Trek FX 7.2 and although it does exactly what I want it to do and I enjoy riding it, it bores the hell out of me. Uninspiring paint, ugly "Trek" decals (unpaid advertisements)...I'm planning to have it powder coated to spice it up some but I'm looking for inspiration. Has anyone here done anything interesting to their Trek FX? Using different bars, cool color scheme, anything at all? Well other than add a rack or bar ends.

I thought maybe add short bullhorns and have them covered in leather or something and a matching Brooks saddle for starters...Anyhow, if you've done anything interesting to your Trek FX (or similar style bike) I'd love to see it.

Chris

I have a 7.2 which has collected dust since I got my Allez... I got rid of the crappy adjustable stem and suspension seatpost. I'm not a big fan of the color (grayish blue) but it wouldn't be worth it to me to put money into powdercoating or anything like that.

Oops, you just reminded me I have the 7.3. I can get it powder coated for $60.

I bought a 7500FX frame with co-mo fork and built it up for use as a touring bike, and later as a commuter.

I added heavier 36-spoke Mavic wheels, and mountain bike components: Deore cranks, LX brakes and shifters, XT derailleurs, brooks saddle, etc.

I had the 7.2 fx as a short errands bike. After swapping tires, stem and seatpost (maybe a flat bar also) you can have a sweet ride.

FYI bullhorns are not compatible with your shifters, you are going to have to wait until I invent them because we been neglected in this area.
