Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

garmin 305 at 190 refurb - good deal?

Ive been looking for a new computer for a bit. Right now - I mount my polar watch and my sigma computer to my bike...looks ugly and takes up a lot of room...

I see people say good and bad things about the garmin units, but at 190, it seems like a deal. Has some nice features and looks like a good gateway drug to nicer computers(PM)

it is a refurb: I was wondering how your experiences were with garmin refurbs...

or - can you suggest a better $200 computer?

$190 for a refurb is a bit expensive.
I believe can find a new one for around $200 on sale. I ran a short google search and found this:

I've heard mixed reviews about the garmin's durability but I've had mine for six months with no real issues. The amount is data is amazing and the virtual partner is worth the price alone if you are willing to ride the same routes over and over again- the feature allows you to "race" your previous efforts which is really fun and helps push you if you ride alone.

No, a factory refurb is indistinguishable from a new one.

done and done. Pretty slick actually! For that deal I almost went for the 705...then I remembered I wanted to stay under $200. The extra $60 in my pocket will be burned at PBK in 60 days

Garmin's battery goes out intermittently during rides, but I guess that's worth the money.

I'm on my fourth 305 in a year and a half. Garmin has replaced them starting with new units and eventually the last one was one of their refurbs since I the warranty period was ending.

The best of the lot has been the refurb unit.

My refurb Garmin has been bad. I am on number 3. It's quirky, but I got sick of sending them back.

My refurb Garmin has worked perfectly. Absolutely no issues, no battery shut-off or anything. I love it!

with the amount of people getting good ones or bad - I wonder if they have different factories or something. Ive seen that happen where tech from one location is solid and from another it is horrible.

I hope mine works.

I'm hoping to pick up one of the refurb 305 units off of eBay in the next couple months, I have to wait till after the holiday season to regain any sort of disposable income, and I need to buy gifts for others and not myself.

Hopefully the "live" discounts will still be going.

I've been looking to get an Edge 305 for Christmas. If I buy a refurb and have issues with it, do I deal with Garmin directly even though it was a refurb?
