Hmmm.. 19(bikes)*$20(tires)= $380.
How many effin road bikes I have to ride = 1
Sounds like your friend needs to ride less bikes.

Then you went through 5 tires in a span of 1-1/2 months. Too many flats? The person I know buys new tires if the bike didn't come with it, so no, he probably didn't spent anywhere near $400, but I'll ask him next time I see him.

If you get a gash in a tubular it is not as easy to repair as a standard(clincher) tire(replace tube $3).

I put 2k training and racing miles on my sprinter gatorskins. $100 for two tires and two tubes of glue, not a bad deal.

Seeing as how we are now a kind welcoming community to "new members" can I embelish Frukin's comments here just a little bit? k-thx....
...what we're kind of saying is, "Could you please explain your process for gluing up the tires? How are they failing? Are they simple puncture flats or slashes/gashes? Have you tried flat reapir? Anyone know where you can still send tubies for repair the 'old-fashioned' way? Do you sew?"

You got off cheap. If you had bought Dugast tires, you would have spent over $200 each.
If those wheels are race wheels, then $300 is not excessive for good sew-ups. But if they are only training tires, as others have said, you can get good tires for much less.

"What is best used for:

This is a tubular tyre for special tubular rims it will not fit open clincher rims!! If in doubt please email or call our sales department for advise.

Yes we Are
Is it good for off-road:
No, it's for road use

Ride it like you stole it

Look, if you are getting small punctures then before mounting the tires put some Stan's No Tubes or Tufo Sealant in them. That will help seal up the small punctures and cuts. I too get about 1500-2000 miles per tire (Rear/Front) out of a set of tubulars. I ride them exclusively. Also buy some cheap ones, the ones from YellowJersey.org are still 3 for $50 and they are actually very good tires.

Why use tubular's? Seriously.....In this day and age of full carbon clincher wheels that are light and quality tires such as Pro3's or the 4000s there is really no RATIONAL reason not to ride clinchers on the street.

You think road tubulars are expensive.... I think we've bought about 10 various Dugast and FMB cyclocross tubulars this season.
