Does anyone know when Mavic Mektronic or Dura Ace Di2 was implemented?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does anyone know when Mavic Mektronic or Dura Ace Di2 was implemented?

Preferably an exact year? I've come across some articles stating that Mavic's electronic shifting preceded the Di2 10 years ago (different sources at different dates). I was also curious to know if anyone knows when the Di2 project started rather than announced. I saw a video of a Shimano representative saying he's been test riding the electronic components for the past 3 years.

I'm writing a paper for one of my classes.

Do you by any chance know when Mektronic began rather than released?

According to the Mavic site, their first electronic rear derailleur was developed, tested and used in 1992, then released as the "ZAP" system in 1993

From Cycling News:

"Electronic shifting is not new; Mavic's ZAP system debuted in 1994, while their Mektronic system is still being sold"

Thanks guys... I was hesitant about using Google; I wasn't aware that I didn't have to download anything onto my computer. Looks like a huge database of tons of information.
